Writtle Minors defence of the Essex Girls Football League cup continued as they progressed into the final after this seven one victory against Hawkwell. It only took three minutes for Writtle to take the lead as a cross from Kaylee Dodd on the right went across the goal for Sophie Wander to tap the ball in. The lead was doubled from a Sophie Haydon corner, the ball came out to the edge of the box for Becky Wagstaff to power a shot into the net. The best goal of the game came when a fantastic shot from twenty five yards by Sophie Haydon flew over the keepers head. Two more goals followed quickly, a second goal for Sophie Wander and one from Charlotte Ellis after a cross from Kaylee Dodd. Hawkwell got on the score sheet when a long ball over the top was cleared by Beth Wood but the clearance hit the Hawkwell forward on the head and rolled into the net. Kaylee Dodd scored her second of the game when the ball was moved quickly in midfield for her to go through and beat the keeper. With lots of changes in personnel and positions in the second half Writtle kept up the pressure but only had one goal to show for their efforts when Sophie Wander beat the last defender and coolly slipped the ball past the keeper.

Writtle Minors 3 Chelmsford City 0
Writtle Minors were made to fight all the way for this victory over resolute local rivals Chelmsford City. Writtle started the game with the wind behind them, it took until the fifteenth minute for the Writtle pressure to finally tell when Sophie Wander received the ball and powered towards goal and she dispatched a shot beyond the keeper. Despite having the territorial advantage Writtle failed to find the right pass to unlock the impressive Chelmsford rear guard and at half time they lead by the single goal. Now with the wind in their face Writtle kept pressing forward, again they were kept at bay until a corner by Sophie Haydon was finished off by Sophie Wander to double the lead. Kaylee Dodd made a fantastic run on the right beating two defenders, she then unleashed an unstoppable shot that beat the keeper but rebounded off the crossbar. The game was then put beyond the visitors when Elle Georgiou fed the ball inside to Sophie Haydon whose first time shot sailed in to the top corner.

U15 Cup Semi-Final Report
Writtle Minors 11 Brentwood Town 0.
Writtle took the game straight to Brentwood and never let their opponents into the game. Whilst it took 10 minutes to score the first goal, there had been a number of opportunities created beforehand so it was no surprise when a cross from Ellis Rabey found Charlotte Griggs to shoot past the Brentwood goal keeper. This was quickly followed by a similar goal from this pair and a well worked free-kick by Ellis set up Boo Farmer to bend the ball past the defensive wall. A corner by Ellis was met by defender Kirstie Lamb who powered the ball into the net. Beth Howard, in goal was having one of her best games and made the Writtle goal impenetrable despite Brentwood's continued efforts. By now Writtle were making wholesale changes to the team in an effort to give as many of the 14 player squad a game and one of the substitutes, Sophie Turner turned and shot just outside the area to make the score 5 - 0 at half-time.
The second half continued in the same manner, Writtle controlling the game in all areas, looking assured in defence, adventurous in midfield and dangerous in attack. A further 2 goals by Boo including an excellent chip over the goalie, more power drivers from both Charlotte and Sophie continued the goal fest. With defenders being pushed forward for experience, Emily Ellis scored two goals of her own to see the Writtle Minors team book their place into the Essex County Girls League Final at Maldon Town FC in May.
GOTM was Ellis Rabey in recognition of the opportunities created for her fellow players in true selfless style.

Writtle Minors 8 Leigh Rockets 0
Writtle Minors kept up the challenge of defending their League title with this 8-0 victory over Leigh Rockets at Paradise Road on Sunday afternoon. With Beth Wood not available due to illness, again this week four players took a in turn in goal. Writtle managed to breach the Leigh Rockets defence after ten minutes when Ellie Georgiou latched on to a bouncing ball in the box, Writtle second was a great turn and shot from the edge on the box by Sophie Wander. Kaylee Dodd got her name on the score sheet which was followed by two quick goals from Sophie Haydon, the second of which came from a run that started in her own half. Just before the half time whistle Sophie Wander bagged her second goal of the game.
The second half was a bit of an anticlimax as Writtle cruised to victory with a second goal for Kaylee Dodd and a third goal for Sophie Wander who powered through the Leigh defence and finished superbly with her left foot.

RSA Basildon 3 Writtle Minors 6.
Writtle visited Basildon knowing this was a key match in the run in for the title as these opponents were capable of making the game very difficult, especially on their very small and sloping boggy pitch. It took 10 minutes for Writtle to get into their stride by which time Basildon had already made better use of the conditions, playing down-hill and found ourselves 2-0 down. However Writtle were now applying the pressure and in a ten minute spell, goals from Boo Farmer (Shot on the turn) and Charlotte Griggs (shot after a great team passing move) brought both teams level. Not long after Boo scored with a header from a well executed corner by Ellis Rabey and it looked like the girls were well placed for the second half. Despite this Basildon scored once more from a defensive mistake which allowed a corner ball to travel across the Writtle goal mouth for a simple tap-in.
Second half saw slope advantage pass to Writtle and it was not long before this paid dividends as the midfield now pushed forward at every opportunity. Boo then scored her third goal with a clever chip over the goalie, followed shortly after by another corner-header combination. Any counter attacks by Basildon were soaked up by the strong defensive line, making it difficult for the opponent's forwards to combine. The game was wrapped up in the final minutes as a further shot by Boo just outside the penalty area found the net.
GOTM - Charlotte Griggs, instrumental in making many of the goals today with great use of both feet and penetrating runs. Special mention was given to new goal keeper, Sammie Lloyd, who normally plays at U14 level. Sammie took over goalie duties for the second half and put in an excellent performance.
Squad: Beth Howard, Sammie Lloyd, Aivy Nguyen, Kirstie Lamb, Alex Bailess, Emily Ellis, Nicola Devito, Sophie Turner, Ellis Rabey, Emma Hollox, Charlotte Griggs and Boo Farmer.

Writtle Minors 4 Hawkwell 0
With four of their regular players away Writtle Minors made two new signings for this league game against Hawkwell, Ruby Baxter and Stacey Mercer both made the debuts. With their usual keeper one of the players absent four different players all took a turn in goal. The first half was fairly even with Writtle having the bulk of the possession but with Hawkwell always looking dangerous on the counter attack, only the alertness of the Writtle defence kept Hawkwell at bay. Despite all the attacking the first half finished with neither team managing to open the scoring. Now kicking down the slope Writtle soon got the upper hand when the ball came in from the left and Sophie Haydon beat a player and placed the ball in the bottom corner. It took until the 60th minute for the lead to be doubled when Sophie Haydon went on a mazy run and riffled the ball past the keeper, more pressure lead to a third goal when Elle Georgiou bundled the ball into the net from a scramble in front of goal. The match was wrapped up when Sophie Wander curled a great shot from outside the box past the keeper.

Writtle Minors 5 Leigh Rockets 4.
Writtle exacted revenge for an earlier 'away' defeat against Leigh Rockets by taking maximum points from this 'top of the League' clash. The girls were all up for the match and this showed as, playing uphill and against the wind, they went two nil up within the first 6 minutes of play with both Boo Farmer and Charlotte Griggs finding the net. Leigh Rockets did not give up though and gradually they got back into the match pulling level in the 30 minute. By half time they had gone ahead, 2-3, albiet against the run of play.
The second half saw Writtle utilise the elements to their advantage and within a five minute spell had turned the game on it's head from two more well taken goals from Boo, including a powerful header from a precise corner delivery by Nicola Devito. The lead didn't last as Leigh drew level once again from a solo effort by their outstanding No. 9. With so much pressure being applied by Writtle in the latter stages though, it seemed only time before this payed dividends and with eight minutes to play Boo duly struck from just inside the penalty area to win the game.
GOTM This was very much a team performance today but Ellis Rabey won the award for her excellant work in defence.

U13's Quarter Final Cup
Hutton 0 Writtle Minors 8
Writtle Minors progressed to the Semi-Finals of the cup with a well earned victory away at Hutton on Sunday afternoon. In freezing conditions it took until the twelfth minute of the first half for Elle Georgiou to put the visitors in front when her shot crept under the keeper. Writtle had plenty of the ball but the Hutton keeper did well to keep Writtle at bay, it took a great pass from Sophie Haydon to release Kaylee Dodd who went round the keeper and finished well with her left foot. With only a couple of minutes until half time a short corner between Kaylee Dodd and Sophie Haydon led to the later squeezing the ball into the far corner to give Writtle a three nil lead at half time.
Within a couple of minutes of the second half a well worked move set Sophie Wander for an easy finish to make it four nil, Ellie Georgiou grabbed her second of the game after cutting in from the right. With Sophie Haydon, Kaylee Dodd and Sophie Wander all getting their second goals of the game Writtle progressed into the Semi-Finals with a eight nil win in defence of the trophy the won last May at Maldon.

Writtle 7 Colchester Town Eagles 2
Writtle moved one step closer to the finals as they beat the present 9 aside league leaders in bitterly cold conditions. The first five minutes saw Colchester take the game to us and they were rewarded with two quick-fire goals that left Writtle stunned. As usual we took some time adapting to the 9 aside game, but once we settled down you could feel that we could get back into the game. We were not to be dissappointed as solo runs by Charlotte Griggs and Boo Farmer led to one-on-one's with the opposition goal keeper. Both final touches seemed to take an age to cross the line but nevertheless we had drawn level.
Half time allowed an opportunity to reinforce 9 aside formation & responsibilities which paid dividends in the second half as we dominated the game. With a great number of chances being created it was inevitable that we could kill the game, although this did take some time to happen. However once we had gone into the lead Colchester heads went down and further goals appeared from all angles, including a clever chip from Boo over the goal keeper. Emily Ellis was pushed into midfield and scored a great goal from the edge of the area, turning and shooting on the spot into the corner of the goal. In the end Boo had scored four, Charlotte two and Emily one to wrap up the match!
GOTM - Alex Bailess, our midfield engine, worked her socks off in both suporting defence and attack. Dominated in midfield.

Colchester Town 1 Writtle Minors 8
Writtle Minors travelled up the A12 to face Colchester Town for this league game, it was raining as Writtle kicked off on a heavy but playable pitch. Without normal custodian Beth Wood, four different girls took it in turns to take the keepers gloves. Despite having the majority of possession it took until the 18th minute for a pass from Becky Wagstaff to set Sophie Wander free to open the scoring for Writtle. The lead was soon doubled when Catherine Cockrell won a tackle just outside the Colchester penalty area and struck the ball into the bottom corner. As half time approached a ball flighted over the top of the Colchester defence from Becky Wagstaff was collected by Kaylee Dodd as she sped away from the defence to make it three nil at half time.
Writtle wasted no time in the second half with two quick goals from Sophie Haydon making it five nil, this was followed by a well deserved goal from Charlotte Ellis. Great defending by Catherine Cockrell stopped a near certain goal for Colchester when she got across from right back to clear the ball from danger. Sophie Haydon then completed her hat trick after she twisted and turned in the box before putting the ball beyond the keeper. Despite being pinned into their own half for long periods of the game Colchester broke away and scored with ten minutes to go. The best goal of the game when Georgia Sleep beat the defender and let fly an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Writtle Minors travelled to Hawkwell to resume their league campaign after their cup exploits last week, with two players unavailable Writtle only had the luxury of just one sub. Writtle started the game kicking down the slope with the wind at their backs and it did not take long for the Hawkwell goal to come under pressure. Becky Wagstaff played the ball through to Kaylee Dodd who slid the ball beyond the keeper to give Writtle the lead, the lead was then doubled by Sophie Haydon who beat the keeper from close range. Kaylee Dodd claimed her second of the game after picking up the ball near the half way line she beat two defenders and the ball came off the keeper and trickled into the net, just before half time a superb corner from Sophie Haydon was volleyed home by Elle Georgiou. Hawkwell started the second half much the better team and only the alertness of Beth Wood in the Writtle goal and a superb performance by Brogan Lambert at the heart of the Writtle defence kept Hawkwell at bay. Against the run of play Writtle broke through the Hawkwell rear guard and Kaylee Dodd claimed her hat trick, another quick break ended when Kaylee Dodd was caught from behind in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Sophie Haydon stepped up and riffled the ball into the top corner, Sophie Haydon then completed her hat trick with a good finish from outside the box which nestled in the bottom corner. The best goal of the game completed the scoring when Kaylee Dodd out sprinted the defence then beat the reiterating defender with a smart bit of footwork and placed the ball across the keeper.

U13's Writtle Minors 14 Clacton Town 0 (CUP).
After not playing for 5 weeks Writtle Minors progressed to the Quarter Finals of the cup after a comprehensive victory against visitors Clacton Town. Writtle took the lead after seven minutes when Player of the match Becky Wagstaff played a good ball through to Kaylee Dodd who beat the keeper, the lead was then doubled when Kaylee Dodd won the ball in her own half and powered forward leaving defenders in her wake to place the ball beyond the keeper. Sophie Wander scored three goals before half time the second of which came from fantastic work by Elle Georgiou on the right wing. The second half carried on in the same way with Clacton struggling to get out of the own half and Writtle putting the pressure on the Clacton defense. The goal scoring in the second half was started by Georgia Ellis was was causing problems down the Clacton left, Georgia then became provider for Kaylee Dodd to complete her hat trick. Charlotte Ellis then got her name on the score sheet and this was followed by Two goals from Elle Georgiou who had an impressive game in midfield. A long clearance from keeper Beth Wood was chased by Sophie Wander who beat the defense to take her personal tally to Four on the day, there was a second for Georgia Ellis, a goal from Lauren Baker who had been moved into Midfield and Elle Georgiou completed her hat trick and the goal scoring.

Leigh Rockets 1 Writtle Minors 7
After a two week break with no matches or training Writtle Minors struggled to get into their stride against a resolute Leigh Rockets team. Although Writtle had the majority of possession Leigh caused problems on occasions and only a good save by Beth Wood in goal and a block by Lauren Baker kept Leigh at bay. It took until the 30th minute for Writtle to take the lead when a fine finish from outside the box by Sophie Haydon put them in front, just before half time the same player doubled the lead. The second half started with Georgia Ellis causing the Leigh defense problems, on several occasions she beat the Leigh defender and got to the line and delivered some quality crosses. Sophie Haydon then added to the score to make it three nil. A great one two between Sophie Haydon and Sophie Wander lead to another goal for Sophie Haydon, Georgia Ellis again caused problems and her cross was meet in front of goal for an easy tap in by Sophie Haydon. Sophie Haydon then took her personal tally to six for the game after the ball was worked well by the Writtle midfield to open up the Leigh defense, the last goal for Writtle was a well taken goal by Sophie Wander who battled well to beat the defender and beat the keeper.
A good ball forward was latched onto by the Leigh forward who beat Beth Wood to the ball and managed to stab the ball into the net, another Leigh attack down the left lead to the Leigh forward taking a tumble in the box and the referee awarded a penalty, the penalty was placed to near Beth Wood who stood up well to save the kick.

Writtle Minors 11 Leigh Ramblers 0
After the seeding games had been completed Writtle Minors started their league campaign in division 1 with a home game against Leigh Ramblers. Writtle started the game kicking down the hill and inside two minutes Sophie Wander had put them one nil up, the game settled down with Writtle having the ball for the majority of the game without really testing the visiting keeper. Just before the half hour Sophie Wander doubled her tally and the Writtle lead, with half time approaching Kaylee Dodd latched onto a through ball and made it three nil at half time.
The second half was only five minutes old when Writtle moved further ahead when Sophie Haydon got her name on the score sheet, Elle Georgiou making her debut was soon on the score sheet after coming close in the first half when her shot from close range hit the cross bar. Leigh were unlucky to concede two own goals in a short period of time, Sophie Wander completed her hat-trick with a fine strike that gave the keeper no chance. Sophie Wander then took her personal tally to four after she followed up her own shot that the keeper managed to push up into the air by getting her head to the ball to put the ball into the net. Elle Georgiou then completed the scoring by getting her second to cap an impressive debut.

Braintree Town 0 Writtle Minors 14
Writtle Minors completed their fourth seeding game with a comprehensive Fourteen nil victory at Braintree Town, with Four wins out of Four Writtle now progress to the A division. With only Nine players available to play Writtle they would have to work hard on the big pitch at Braintree to earn the right to play their passing games. Writtle dominated from the first whistle, most of the good attacking play was coming from down the left side through the influential Charlotte Ellis who was causing the Braintree defense all sorts of problems. It was not long before Writtle took the lead and by half time Writtle was leading by Seven goals to nil, with Two goals from Sophie Haydon, Two from Kaylee Dodd and one each for Sophie Wander, Charlotte Ellis and Georgia Sleep.
At half time Sophie Wander took over the keepers gloves with Beth Wood playing left midfield and Charlotte Ellis switched to the right. The second half followed the same pattern as the first as Writtle scored at regular intervals, the midfield was supported well by the two full backs who got forward at every opportunity with Lauren Baker excelling at left back. With Two further goals form Kaylee Dodd, two for Charlotte Ellis and one each for Sophie Haydon, Georgia Sleep and Beth Wood completed the scoring.

Colchester Town 0 Writtle Minors 3
Writtle Minors travelled to The Charles Lucas School on Sunday morning to take on Colchester Town in their Third seeding game of the season. With Manager Rob Ellis having been summoned to America to try and sort out their budget deficit ( Luckily Brenda had gone with him to lend a hand ) the team was left in the hands of Michael Haydon. Last season we played Colchester with only eight players players and had one of the closest games of the season, this season we had the luxury of one sub but again Colchester pushed us all the way.
Writtle started the game well and soon had the Colchester goal under siege but to often made the wrong decision when the final pass would have created a goal scoring oppurtunity, despite this Writtle still had chances to take the lead. Writtle were awarded a free kick after Twenty minutes when the Colchester keeper handled the ball outside the box, with no wall in front of her Sophie Haydon hit a sweet free kick into the top corner.
At half time the team were told to get the ball down on the floor and as soon as the second half started a pass in between Two defenders from Sophie Haydon put Sophie Wander through on goal who made no mistake to double the lead. Numerous chances were created but a fine display by the home keeper and the woodwork saved Colchester from going further behind until a pass down the left to Sophie Wander put her through on goal one on one against the keeper to make the game safe.

Writtle Minors 3 RSA Basildon 2
Another tough fixture saw Writtle dominate the first half with two well taken goals from Charlotte, the first from a brilliant passing move that started all the way from defence through midfield and into attack, where Charlotte struck home. The second came about after she 'stole' the ball from a unsuspecting defender and slotted the goal wide of their keeper. Any attacks on our goal were resolutely dealt with by a commanding Lauren in Goal, returning after a long injury. We also welcomed back Daisie to the fold (Note to Manager: Next time don't forget to send your own daughters registration forms with the others!).
Everyone played their part throughout the first half and as a result we controlled the play effectively. We were however taken off guard early in the second half when a through ball from the Basildon midfield was intercepted by their unmarked centre forward, played onside by one of our wide defenders, beating Lauren on a one v one basis.
Shortly after we were awarded a penalty as Charlotte was brought down in the box and she dusted herself down to put the ball low and hard into the right hand corner of goal for her hat-trick.
Into the last 10 minutes and Basildon mounted a further attack and long range shot which found the back of the net. 3-2 final score, it could have been a greater margin had we taken the chances created but a win is a win. Charlotte was Girl Of The Match, not just because of her hat-trick but her constant harrassing which unnerved the Basildon defence. Well done Lottie!
Squad: Keeley Golding, Holly Connell, Maddy Archer, Charlotte Ellmore, Tara Meeking, Millie Morgan, Ellie Bowdidge, Charlotte Palmer, Rosie Grice, Zara Ellis.
Writtle Minors Girls under 10s entertained Snaresbrook Ladies on Sunday afternoon in what was their first game of the season. For half of the team this was the very first time that they had been involved in a meaningful game in front of a large crowd at Paradise Road.
The opposition was made up of some ex-Redbridge Ladies; therefore I knew that they were going to be strong opposition for the girls. I don’t know what they get fed on in the Snaresbrook area but some of the girls were really tall. I almost went to question the age of one with their manager, especially when I see her parking her car in the car park!!
Writtle kicked off going up the slight slope and with 3 of our more experienced girls starting on the subs bench (Charlotte P, Rosie and Zara) it was going to be interesting to see how the girls performed.
What a delight it was to see Writtle taking the game to the opposition. With Charlotte Ellmore and Millie Morgan making good breaks down the wings and Ellie Bowdidge making a lot of good runs up front, I was confident that we would quickly take the lead. Despite having most of the play it was Snaresbrook who had the first chance of the game but Keeley “the cat” Golding was quickly out of her goal to smother the ball. With Holly Connell and Maddy “mad dog” Archer playing really well in defence, and Tara Meeking beginning to take control of the game in midfield, the tension on the faces of the home support soon faded as they began to enjoy the action being played out in front of them.
The hot conditions were taking its toll on the players so on came Charlotte Palmer, Rosie Grice and Zara Ellis to freshen things up. Zara looked remarkably fresh considering she had a sleepover the night before which followed a full day’s activities at Danbury. She looked fresher than mum and dad anyway (which isn’t hard in dad’s case I guess).
Rosie Grice was soon into the action, forcing her way through to get a shot in on goal which narrowly missed the target.
During the half time team-talk, I told the girls how proud they made me feel with their performance and that if they continued with what they were doing; they would eventually get their reward.
At the start of the second half we were quickly back on the attack with Tara Meeking dribbling through the midfield and hitting a shot from the edge of the box, but the opposition keeper saved well.
Pressure down the left from Zara Ellis and Charlotte Ellmore forced a free-kick which was taken by Rosie Grice. Although Rosie struck the ball really well, the shot went just past the post.
It was not long though until Writtle got the reward that their attacking play deserved. A ball was played forward by Charlotte Palmer to Rosie Grice who cleverly took the ball past the last defender before unleashing a great shot that hit the back of the net. The crowd and the players were celebrating wildly. It had been a long time coming but the goal was much deserved.
Not content with one goal, Writtle continued to surge forward looking for another but it wasn’t to be.
The final score was 1-0 to Writtle. A deserved win against a very good team. All the girls were tremendous today, especially Maddy Archer who is only a year 3. Girls you made all your parents proud. Well done.
U13 League Game:
Writtle Minors 13 Maldon Saints 0
Writtle Minors played their first competitive match of the season and completed a comprehensive victory against a valiant Maldon Saints side on Sunday morning. Playing in fantastic conditions it did not take long for Writtle to take an early lead through Becky Wagstaff this was soon followed up by a great strike for Beth Wood after great centre forward play by Sophie Wander who held the ball up and then played the perfect ball to Beth Wood. A quick hat trick by the impressive Charlotte Ellis and a goal each from Georgia Sleep and Sophie Wander took Writtle into half time with a seven nil lead.
The Writtle line up was much altered in the second half but the game carried on in the same way, and after impressive work and a great cross by Georgia Ellis the ball took a cruel deflection into the net. Emma Anderson playing as striker in the second half scored her first two goals in a Writtle shirt, and a further two goals for Brogan Lambert and one from Lauren Baker completed the scoring.
Another good all round team performance and with eight different players on the score sheet it all bodes well for this season.

U15 League Game:
Leigh Rockets 3 - 3 Writtle Minors
After last weeks' win by Leigh over contenders Basildon, we expected this particular fixture would be a difficult and hard fought affair, especially as we were playing away from home against a team we had never met on an 11 a-side basis. Injuries and sickness meant we were without regulars Lauren (GoalKeeper), Emily (Defence) and Daisie (Centre Half), which resulted in a change of roles for Kirstie, Boo and Tilly.
From the outset Leigh took the game to us, very much reliant on their outstanding No. 9 to test and probe our defence at every opportunity. Whilst we had a number of good attacks of our own in the early stages, they lacked the clinical finishing we showed against Billericay last week.
It was no surprise that the stalemate was broken by Leighs' No.9 who broke away down the left wing and hammered the ball past our keeper. 10 minutes later we went further behind with another well taken goal by the No. 9. Our Goalie, Kirstie, was now struggling with a leg muscle injury and Beth had to replace her, leaving us further exposed in the out field. The girls did however battle on and, with a change of strategy, Boo was given responsibility to 'Man Mark' the No. 9, which she undertook with vigour.
Play then started to swing back in our favour and with 5 minutes to go a well taken corner from Nicola was volleyed into the net by Sophie at point blank range. Into the second half and Writtle continued to press from the kick - off and were rewarded by a run and left footed shot by Claudia which beat the keeper. 2-2 now and with all to play for, our girls threw everything at the leigh defence. Once again the ball was provided to Claudia who turned quickly to run though their defensive wall, placing the ball beyond the Leigh Goalie.
For a moment, with Writtle ahead and Leigh's No. 9 subdued, we were dreaming of a victory from the jaws of defeat, however the No. 9 had other ideas. Gaining just the smallest space advantage from a long ball delivery, she cleverly turned and deftly placed the ball past Beth's outreached hands.
The final minutes saw both teams making opportunities but failing to finish the chances and, in the end, a draw was perhaps the right result on the day.
GOTM went deservedly to Boo who not only played out of position, but when asked, did a great marking job of Leigh's best player - preventing the No. 9 from taking the game beyond our reach.
The first match of the season was played in excellent conditions and the girls were determined to start off in style - and they did not disappoint! With great passing in abundance, the girls entertained us to a style of play not seen from them for some time. Play was cleverly spread about the pitch, making the most of the larger pitch used. Movement by all the girls, both on and off the ball, opened up large spaces for us to attack and they took full advantage of the time given in possession.
It was no surprise then that we were already 5 - 0 up within the first 25 minutes. They came from all angles and players, such was the variation of linking. Ellis started the rout with a fantastic corner which curled into the far corner of the goal unopposed. Charlotte finished off a great passing move with a belter into the left corner of the net. Claudia then took on the Billericay defence with a lone run and slotted one home. Soon after we saw Claudia set up a passing move which she finished with a left footed shot past the goalie. The fifth goal came a moment later from a well executed shot by Boo.
All four subs were then utilised to give everyone a run out and it took the whole team time to adjust to the changes made. As a result Writtle play went a little quiet for the remainder of the first half during which time Billericay had a chance to regroup and deservedly pulled one back. In the second half however we once again took the game to Billericay and it was not long before further goals were scored by a tap-in from Claudia (Hat-Trick) and a header from Tilley. With a job well done the side relaxed and both Goalies, Kirstie (and for the last 10 minutes - Beth) had very little to do today.
Girl of the Match went to Claudia for her contribution in attack and in recognising her hat-trick.
Squad - Kirstie, Aivy, Boo, Emily, Paige, Jodie, Sophie, Alex (Capt.), Ellis, Emma, Nicola, Beth, Charlotte, Claudia & Tilley.

Braintree Town Under 13's 0 Writtle Minors Under 13's 13
In their last Pre-season game before the League starts next week Writtle Minors cruised to comprehensive win over local rivals Braintree Town on Sunday. Playing on a bigger pitch than they are used to, Writtle dominated from the start and were quickly into their stride and after fifteen minutes were five nil to the good. The game carried on in the same way with Writtle playing some great football and using the size of the pitch to their advantage. Beth Wood the normal keeper was given a chance to play out on pitch for the whole game and did very well playing wide left. Praise should go to the Braintree Town girls who kept trying to play football and never let their heads drop.
A great second half performance from Writtle Minors was the difference between these two teams at a damp Paradise Road on Sunday afternoon. Kicking up the slope and against the wind Writtle took an earlier lead when Kaylee Dodd scored after two minutes of her debut, the lead only lasted ten minutes when a long range effort sneaked under the body of Beth Wood in the Writtle goal. Writtle had the greater threat on goal but failed to turn the pressure into goals so went into half time with the score at one each.
With the wind at their backs in the second half Writtle kept the ball on the floor and started to play through the midfield, it did not take long for Writtle to take the lead, a great effort from Becky Wagstaff him the crossbar and Sophie Haydon following up finished it off. Writtle then moved further in front with a second from Sophie Haydon and one from Georgia Sleep, a great shot from Becky Wagstaff from outside the box was the goal of the match and she soon added a second to her tally. Just before the end of the match a long throw by Kaylee Dodd was latched onto by Sophie Haydon completed the scoring and gave her a hat-trick on the day.
Writtle played the conditions well and the team is starting to work together and will improve as the season progresses.

Writtle Minors played their first pre-season game against local rivals Chelmsford City on Sunday at Paradise Road. With the new FA rules in place Writtle started the season with a much changed side but with 3 new additions taking the field Writtle battled to a deserved victory against a resolute Chelmsford City.
Writtle started the game brightly but were thwarted on numerous occasions by a determined defence and an outstanding display by the Chelmsford keeper who kept her team in the game with several great saves. After a period of pressure on the Chelmsford goal a powerful shot from Sophie Wander finally gave Writtle a one nil lead going into half time. A slight change to the Writtle line up in the second half soon paid dividends with a second Sophie Wander goal and a goal from Georgia Sleep on her debut. The game was wrapped up with ten minutes left when Sophie Wander completed her hat trick to give Writtle a four nil win and a good start for a new look team. off-screen area

U12 Essex County Cup Final 18/05/08
Writlle Minors 7 Little Thurrock Dynamos 2
Writtle Minors Girls Under 12's completed a fantastic treble on Sunday and remained unbeaten for the whole season, in the League cup final at Maldon Town took on the winners of the Essex Girls League B Division Little Thurrock Dynamos. Little Thurrock started the game with the wind behind them and were soon causing the Writtle back four problems and it was not long before a goal came from a corner kick, Writtle were slow to get there passing game going. A change was made to the line up Sophie Wander having to come off the pitch for treatment to a cut, so Sophie Haydon moved up front with Charlotte Ellis taking a central midfield role. With these changes Writtle started to win the midfield and thus we able to use their wide players Georgia Ellis and Ashleigh Deacon, it was not long before Sophie Haydon chased down what seemed a lost cause and beat the defender to put the ball across goal for Ashleigh Deacon to pounce on a mistake by the keeper.
Writtle Minors now were in the ascendance and took the lead when Sophie Haydon scored after good work in midfield by Charlotte Ellis, Little Thurrock again pushed forward and soon scored to take the game to 2-2, with half time approaching a well taken goal from Sophie Haydon sent Writtle into the break with a 3-2 advantage.
Now with the wind behind them Writtle took advantage of the conditions and soon had extended their lead as a great cross from Molly Bartip was clinically finished by Sophie Haydon to complete her hat-trick, with confidence running through the team Writtle dominated the game. A goal from Sophie Wander who had come back on at the start of the second half and two from Molly Bartrip put the game beyond Little Thurrock. After the game Writtle were presented with their League winners medals, the plate trophy and the League cup trophy.

Leigh Rockets Tournament
U14’s Leigh Rocket Tournament report.
With temperatures far too hot for sustained football, the U14’s travelled to Leigh On Sea for their annual tournament. Even with a number of players absent, we still managed to enter two teams into the competition and were drawn into separate groups but both containing a strong West Ham Academy side. Nevertheless both Writtle teams managed to draw each of their first encounters with West Ham, only to have to meet the same sides again on a ‘home’ and ‘away’ basis. Lady luck was not with us on the return legs as West Ham narrowly edged these games, one of which was decided by a goal in the dying seconds of the game.
Whilst Team ‘Emily’ had secured second place by virtue of their other results, Team ‘Kirstie’ had to win their last group game against Ridgeway Rovers ‘A’ to qualify. With two minutes to go and 0-1 down it looked all over, but two goals in quick succession saw a reversal of the lead in our favour and second spot was secured.
Both teams then entered the quarter finals in good spirits and Team ‘Emily’ put on a strong physical performance to see off the challenge of Ridgeway Rover's other team with a 1-0 win and Team ‘Kirstie’ eased through with a 1-0 win against RSC Basildon. The semi finals became a Writtle Minors/West Ham affair as the only two clubs left in the competition. Both games were really close and at 0-0 each of the games went into extra time. Team ‘Emily’ were caught out straight from kick-off in extra time as West Ham scored to finally take control and a further goal in the second half ended any hope of a double-headed final. Team ‘Kirstie’ finished goalless and therefore went to penalties. With Kirstie in goal it was asking too much for a repeat performance of her very first tournament at the Hutton Medway Tournament as an U11, but she repeated another clean sheet saving all of the West Ham penalties and Writtle were in the final!
By the time the final was played both teams looked drained and overall fitness started to play its’ part and with West Ham seemingly having the edge here, managed to score in each half to win 0-2.
We can be very proud of the girls in both teams today in difficult conditions caused by the unusually hot weather. Everyone worked their socks off today and it would have been nice for all girls who contributed today to have won a trophy. Special mention must go to Team ‘Emily’ who played the whole tournament without a substitute (West Ham had three subs in both their sides!). WELL DONE EVERYONE.
Team ‘Emily’ – Emily, Lauren, Ellis, Charlotte, Emma and Tilly.
Team ‘Kirstie’ – Kirstie, Beth, Boo, Sophie, Paige, Jodie and Aivy.

A Closely contested Pearl Cooper Cup Final between Writtle Minors under 13s and Cambridge City at Billericay Town Football club ended in a 2-2 draw meaning that the sides will share the trophy.
Close on 300 spectators watched the match that pitted the Minors, the Essex County Girls' League champions, against Weetabix League champions Cambridge City.
After a goalless first half, Cambridge opened the scoring and the Minors equalised with 10 minutes left. Ellie Butterwick broke away and after leaving two defenders in her wake, she delivered a cross that Chelsea House headed home.
Writtle pushed forward and with five minutes remaining Gemma Codling's shot found the net.
The Writtle fans joy was shortlived as Cambridge equalised in the closing moments, and with no goals in the extra-time period, it means that the sides will fittingly share the trophy.

Writtle Minors U10s 2 Assundun Vikings U10s 0
On an awful muddy pitch Writtle Minors produced an excellent performance pulling off an excellent 2-0 win over Assundun Vikings. In only their second full game Writtle started strongly and could of scored early on with shots from Rosie Grice and Charlotte Palmer only failing to hit the net when they were held up in the mud. Writtle were however thankful to the excellent Imogen Riches in goal who pulled off a stunning point blank save from the Assundun centre forward midway through the first half, keeping the score 0-0 at half time.
Playing up a steep slope Writtle produced an excellent second half performance. Charlotte Palmer hit the post early on from an excellent Hannah Mold corner as they continued to pressure the Assundun goal. Writtle finally took the lead midway through the second half when Hannah Mold latched on to a Charlotte Ellmore through ball to push the ball beyond her opponent before crashing the ball past the Assundun goalkeeper. A second goal followed thanks to an excellent strong and determined run down the right wing by Rosie Grice who crossed the ball to find Keeley Golding who side footed home on the back post. A special mention should go to new signing Holly Connell for her solid performance on her debut. Girl of the match was awarded jointly to the excellent Morgan Cole and Charlotte Ellmore who both performed wonders at the back and helped Imogen Riches keep a clean sheet.

Redbridge Ladies 2 Writtle Minors 9
Writtle Minors dream of completing the double moved one step closer with this comprehensive victory over Redbridge Ladies in their cup semi-final. All credit must go to the team of helpers who worked hard to get this match on in what was very difficult playing conditions. Writtle had Ten players available for selection but with keeper Beth Wood struggling with a damaged toe but she bravely took her place between the post. Writtle took the lead after a couple of minutes through Ashleigh Deacon, then a further Four goals from Sophie Haydon and One from Sophie Wander with only One conceded sent Writtle into the break leading Six One.
With Beth Wood unable to carry on Sophie Wander stepped forward to take over the keepers gloves. The weather conditions seemed to take a turn for the worse but both teams battled well and tried to play football. Some superb work between Sophie Haydon, Ashleigh Deacon and Molly Bartrip caused the Redbridge defense all manor of problems. A superb second half hat trick from Molly Bartirp put Writtle into the final although Redbridge put a great fight and managed another goal to leave the final score nine two.

Having won the home leg 9-0 the Minors were expected to secure their third consecutive league title without too many problems. However getting over the winning line is never that easy and with LTD determined to put up a much better performance this proved to be the case. The conditions and the state of the pitch made it difficult to play attractive passing football but Writtle adapted quickly and within 15 minutes were 2-0 up. The green and whites were very much on top , opportunities were coming thick and fast ,twice just missing out on one ones with the keeper and then seeing a header come back off the bar. Eventually the third goal came and at 3-0 the half time drinks must have tasted good. The second half saw Ltd stage a fight back, playing with the wind, the ball over the top was a very effective tactic and soon had the oranges back in the game at 3-2. The Minors still tried to keep the ball on the ground and managed to create a number of openings but at the final whistle the score stayed the same and saw the writtle Minors girls retain their league title.

West Ham 2 Writtle Minors 3
Writtle Minors clinched the Spring plate with a winning goal with only two minutes left on the clock scored by Molly Bartrip. Writtle travelled to West Ham needing a victory after they had already beaten Redbridge and Little Thurrock Dynamoes to secure another piece of silverware to add to their league title. It was not long before West Ham took an early advantage with a well worked goal, Writtle looked shaken by this early set back but within five minutes they were back on level terms when West Ham conceded an own goal. Writtle had West Ham pinned back into their own half for long periods of play and this lead to Sophie Wander putting Writtle ahead for the first time in the match, with half time getting closer West Ham again broke through the Writtle defense to take the two teams into the break even
The second half was played predominately in the West Ham half but some resolute defending and a keeper in inspired form kept Writtle at bay, with the game looking like it would end all even a strike from outside the box from Molly Bartrip which flew across the keeper and into the corner of the net sending the travelling supporters into raptures.
A game played in great spirits which both teams should be praised for the quality of the football on show.

Little Thurrock Dynamos 2 Writtle Minors 4
In a match up between the winners of their respective leagues this game promised to be cracking game and so it turned out to be. Both teams went into the game undefeated and looking to put down a marker for a possible cup final meeting. The game was only two minutes old when a cross from Georgia Ellis was converted by Sophie Haydon, with only ten minutes on the clock Little Thurrock were back in the game when a long ball caused confusion in the Writtle defense and the forward took advantage to equalize. The game was played at a frantic pass with both teams trying to play football in what was difficult windy conditions. Writtle then took command of the game and Sophie Wander scored three goals in in a fifteen minute period, but just before half time interval Little Thurrock again cut the deficit again to take the teams into the break with Writtle leading four two.
As the teams came out after the break the crowd was probably expecting more goals but both teams cancelled each other out until the last couple of minutes when Writtle were awarded a penalty for a handball, the penalty was struck well but the keeper pulled off a great save to keep the second half goalless.

This was Writtle Minors first game in four weeks but with only One Minute on the clock Writtle took the lead through Sophie Haydon her first of a Double hat-trick, plus goals for Sophie Wander and Jade Harrington completed the scoring.
Writtle Minors victory was a testament to hard team work and the great wing play of Georgia Ellis and Ashleigh Deacon who caused the Redbridge defense all afternoon. Writtle played the first half up the hill and against the wind but went in to the break 4-1 up with all Four of the Writtle goals coming from Sophie Haydon. The second half Redbridge battled well and defended with determination and it was not until Sophie Wander turned the ball into the net after great work out wide from Ashleigh Deacon that the game was put beyond Redbridge, with Two more goals for Sophie Haydon and One for Jade Harrington completed the goals.

Writtle Minors(13) 2 West Ham (u14) 2
This promised to be a mouth watering game and it certainly lived up to the billing. The younger Writtle team were quickly into their game and but for the post would have went ahead after just two minutes. This Writtle pressure set the tone of the first half and after breaching the West ham defence time and again for no reward, the green and whites must have wondered if it was going to be their day. West Ham started the second half with the wind at their backs and soon forced a corner, the ball was pumped into the Writtle box and the ball was scrambled home. The Writtle response was stunning and immediate. A great pass from Emily Clements put Gemma Codling through on goal and with the west Ham keeper closing in Gemma produce a perfect lob to even things up. West Ham were determined not let the Writtle youngsters have it all their own way and a nice finnish from their striker put the claret and blues back in front. Would this kill off the Writtle resistance?? Not a chance, a surging trademark Ellie B run into the west ham box ended with a penalty, up stepped Molly Kelleher to coolly slot home the equaliser. Writtle now pressed for the winner, Nicole Learner and then Kelsey Philips came within a whisker of the third goal. However there was very nearly a sting in the tail as West ham hit the bar right on the full time whistle.

Leigh Ramblers 1 Writtle 3
Writtle Girls gain 4th Place in the Essex County U14 League (11 A-Side).
With only 11 members of the squad available for selection and key players missing it was always going to be a hard task for the girls away from home. Goal-Keeper Lauren Cooper was kept busy in the first 15 minutes and pulled off 3 magnificant saves to keep Writtle in the match. Writtle had enough chances of their own but it was only half way through the first half when the girls patience finally paid off as defender Kirstie Lamb pushed forward for a corner and connected with her knee to score. Soon after striker Claudia Loy made one of her trademark runs splitting the Leigh defence scoring with a deftley placed shot past the keeper with her left foot.
The second half saw a renewed effort by Leigh Ramblers and with a number of decisions going against Writtle, including two disallowed goals, Leigh then scored themselves to make it 1-2. As the 11 players tired Writtle had to dig deep into their reserves, and despite the pressure held on to the lead. With minutes to go, Claudia found another gap between the Leigh defence scoring again to make the game a more respectable 1-3. Girl of the match was Lauren for her excellant performance in goal.
The result propelled Writtle into 4th place, a tremendous result considering much of the season was spent battling out of the bottom of the league, courtesy of a fixture schedule that saw Writtle playing the other top teams early season .
Squad: Lauren Cooper, Aivy Nguyen, Jodie Beedon, Kirstie Lamb, Daisie Palmer, Alex Bailess, Emma Hollox, Bethany Howard, Paige Mastin, Charlotte Griggs and Claudia Loy.

Writtle let numerous chances go begging before Christy Dailly opened the scoring with a superb run and shot from the edge of the box. Despite dominating the first half Writtle ended it only 2-0 up - the second goal again coming from the boot of Christy Dailly. Writtle started the second half in the same manner and it was not long before they went 3-0 in front following a long range thunderbolt from Rochelle Garnham. It wasn't long before Emily Baker got in on the act and she quickly added a valuable hat-trick to make the scoreline more realistic. Player of the match was Amelia Murphy, who played at left-back, midfield and forward looking comfortable in all positions.

Writtle travelled to Canvey Island to play Island Girls with a depleted squad of nine players due to injuries, illnesses and other commitments. The match was played on a bumpy surface with a freezing north wind blowing straight from the Thames estuary making it hard for our girls to find top gear. Island girls, even though being near the bottom of the table were resolute especially in defence with their goalkeeper outstanding throughout the match. It was 10 min before the deadlock was finally broken when Chelsea scored the first of her four goals. Once the first went in Writtle settled and other scores duly followed with Gemma and Molly both claiming hat tricks; Sophie and Becks bagged a brace apiece and a goal each from Nicole and Molly to complete the Writtle rout.

Braintree 3 – 6 Writtle Minors
We were missing key members of the squad today with Aivy and Nicola unavailable for selection and with Kirstie struggling, having just been sick prior to the match.
Playing conditions were difficult with an uneven surface and a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch. However Writtle took this in their stride and, just like the last encounter, took early control and it was not long before their dominance paid off and goals by Paige, Emma, Claudia and Charlotte saw a 0-4 lead at half time.
The second half saw Writtle playing directly against the wind and with confidence high, the midfield pushed forward to add to the tally. Unfortunately Braintree sensed that Writtle were over committing themselves up front and they used the opportunity intelligently to work from the break and scored 3 goals in as many minutes as a result.
It was now 3-4 and, with Kirstie and Daisie both needing medical attention, the girls were left with just 10 players on pitch. This appeared though to raise the remaining players game and after a good run and cross from Claudia, Paige got herself into a good position to tap-in on the goal line. Charlotte then found her old form, turning her marker in the Braintree penalty area and forcing a powerful shot on goal which struck the back of the net.
Girl of the Match went to Paige for her contribution today with two well taken goals, both of which coming at crucial times of the match. Squad: Lauren, Tilley, Kirstie, Alex, Emily (captain), Emma, Ellis, Daisie, Paige, Charlotte, Claudia and Beth.

On Cup Quarter Final Day Writtle Minors travelled to play Colchester Town, with only Jade Harrington missing through injury Writtle had a strong team available. Writtle started the game kicking against the wind on what was a difficult playing surface and were soon on the attack and should have taken an early lead when Sophie Haydon shoot struck the bar and came out again, with Molly Bartip and Sophie Haydon controlling the midfield and Ashleigh Deacon causing the defense problems out wide. It was not long before a Sophie Wander shoot came back from the foot of the post and bounced away to safety. After Eleven minutes on their first real attack the Colchester forward made her way into the box and in a tangle of legs she went down and a penalty was awarded, the ball was dispatched into the bottom corner to give Colchester the lead. Writtle now had to prove what a good team they have become over the season as this was the first time they had been behind all year, it was not long before Sophie Wander got Writtle back onto level terms and a goal from Molly Bartip gave Writtle the lead going into half time.
After the break kicking with the wind behind them Writtle had Colchester pinned back into their own half for long periods of the game with any Colchester attacks being dealt with by the commanding Brogan Lambert in defense, Georgia Ellis was moved from defense into right midfield and Ashleigh Deacon swapped to the left. With all the possession it was not long before Ashleigh Deacon extended the Writtle lead to make it Three one, Georgia Ellis struck hit the post with two separate efforts after great individual work. The game was put beyond doubt when a quick double by Sophie Wander to complete her hat-trick gave Writtle a Five One victory and sent them into the Semi-finals in good heart.

The scoreline did not reflect the true run of the game, where Writtle matched the league champions in every department but were unable to take their opportunities. The heavy playing conditions did not suit the passing style play of both teams and spoilt what could of been a great cup clash. The first goal for Herongate came in the dying minutes of the first half and the second half became a game of catch-up as Writtle threw caution to the wind in an effort to equalise. It was no surprise that Herongate increased their lead by virtue of break-away, but well taken chances. LTD 0 Writtle Minors 2
As most of you know over the last couple of months we have been holding trials and practise matches to establish an u12 squad for next season. The quality of the players has been fantastic and they are already starting to click. Following last weeks 9 a side 11-0 win, we travelled to Orsett to take on the Thurrock champions at 7 a side.
As we have seen in the past with small goals and a good opposing keeper, scoring is always difficult. Today the Ltd goalie was inspired as she managed to keep the ball out of the net time and again. On another day we would have racked up 5 or six goals instead of the two we ended up with. As we have said before results are not important at this stage (although it is nice to come away with a win) we are looking to play relaxed passing football and the coaches were well pleased on that score.
Syd-- showed in the warm up how difficult she is to beat as it took our girl’s 20 attempts to get one past her. Safe as houses in the match as well.
Brogan—After scoring last week confidence was high, wanted the ball all the time and passed it forward with great accuracy
Georgia--- Another commanding display at the back as she helped to restrict Ltd to only the one chance.
Sophie—A great presence in the attack, showed some great skills and unselfishly put her team mates in with made to measure asses.
Molly--- has been itching to make her debut and slotted into the team very quickly. Showed hunger to win the ball and great finishing instincts as she knocked in two goals.
Ashleigh—Full of tricks and endeavour never far away from the action and put through a lovely ball to set up our first goal.
Charlotte—Knocked the ball around with confidence and didn’t give the ltd defence a minutes rest as she closed them down instantly.
Ria—Another all action performance from our left footed dynamo.
Jess—our girl of the match, Showed steel in the challenge, great vision and was also an attacking threat throughout the game.
We mustn’t get too carried away but I believe this team is really going places and I’m sure there will be many exciting times ahead.
Well-done girls keep up the hard work

MALDON SAINTS 0 - 1 WRITTLE MINORS
This week we traveled to Maldon to take on the Saints, the last time we played these it was all over in 15 minutes the same thing happens at White Hart Lane, but Writtle don't let it slip. This was to be a very different match and give credit to Maldon they have improved a lot. It was cold and the pitch was like Highbury small and tacky. The opposition had some big girls against our treasures it must be the sea air. We kicked off and with Maddy not feeling to good we decided to give her a fitness test at half time, so Georgia played left back with Imogen slotting into midfield.
We played some good football through the pack with Beth distributing the ball well to Georgia or Catherine who then played it up to midfield which provided Christy with some chances but the Saints keeper was in fine form (sending Robo down for some training). Catherine and Georgia were working hard at the back and if anything did get through Beth was there to tidy up. We played some great football in midfield with Imogen and Charlotte in control in the midfield and R.T out on the right wing, was getting kicked around a bit.
Danielle came on for R.T who also got kicked around but she soon got going and put in a excellent performance and after a great run down the right slotted a ball through to Christy who fired home and sent us into the break 1-0 up.
We knew this game was not over and that they would come at us in the second half and with Maddies fitness test only 50/50 we decided to rest her the whole game. Rob gave another top-notch team talk and with R.J coming on for Immy to start the second half.
The saints started off strong with a few more big girls, but that didn’t frighten Cath as she gritted her teeth and the look was there (don’t mess with me look) and a few tackles came in but she kept her name out of the book (Cath if you don’t want to do your home work that’s fine with me). As the second half went by Georgia got a second wind. Them e sticks work wonders and she ran the whole length of the pitch on a few occasions only to see her shots saved, the second pushed onto the bar and out for a corner. Danielle came off after playing some good stuff and R.J had played a good half with some strong tackles.
It ended 1-0 a hard but fare game and another 3 points on the road, that’s better than Spurs.
Well-done girls
Thanks Paul & Rob
Stanford Wanderers 3 Writtle Minors 5.
Playing in the ‘Premier’ Division means no easy games and from previous experience against this well organised team it is somewhat surprising that they have yet to obtain a single point this season.
With a stiff breeze favouring one team in either half the conditions were going to be a significant factor and we began against the wind and we were quickly put under pressure. After only a few minutes a quick ball through our defence was intercepted by the opposition striker who shot wide of Beth, 1-0.
Gradually we began to gain our own momentum. Nicola was working hard down the right wing, receiving support from Charlotte and Claudia. Emma received a knock in a tackle and had to be substituted. Daisy was carrying a knee problem and also had to be substituted. Tilly and Gabby were now in the thick of it in midfield, battling hard against strong opposition and of course the wind. We finally began passing the ball along the ground the ‘Writtle’ way and gaps started to appear. In a matter of minutes we had broken through twice and by half-time we were 1-2 up and in control of the game. Paige was brought on in place of Charlotte who had taken a knock to the head and Gabby was pushed up in Lottie’s place.
Looking to the second half we had the conditions behind us but we found adapting difficult, as passes were driven too hard for our forward line to meet and control. In fact it was Stanford who seemed to be able to control the ball against the wind and we were once again put under pressure. This time though our defence line of Aivy, Kirstie and Emily held out and Beth put in some fine saves. Perhaps though against the run of play we went a further goal up, but it was well executed and deserved by the number of our girls involved in the build up.
At 1-3 some teams would have submitted, but Stanford kept pushing forward and this was rewarded with a fine goal to bring the scoreline within their reach, 2-3. But in true Writtle style, Claudia was having none of it as she stole through and brought out a fine save from the goalie, which found Charlotte to score on the rebound, 2-4. Having restored the margin we began to control the game more and looked comfortable at this stage. Emma had returned into midfield and was battling hard despite her earlier injury. However Aivy was ‘bundled over’ by her marker, clearly a free-kick offence, but the referee missed the challenge, the ball then broke free leaving them with an unopposed run on our goal, 3-4. It was left though to our girls to put the final stamp on this match and a final goal by Claudia, following through on a colossal throw-in from Emily, ensured we maintained our two goal lead.
Goal Scorers were Claudia (2), Nicola (1) and Charlotte (2). Girl of the Match went to Gabby. Whilst her preferred position is in the forward line, our expectations have been to utilise her in a more midfield role, especially as we seem to have so many forwards already!!! Gabby showed us how she can adapt and clearly demonstrated a supporting role to both the defence and forward line – well done and keep it up!

U11’s CHELMSFORD CITY 1 - 7 WRITTLE MINORS
This week saw us travel across Chelmsford to take on arch rivals Chelmsford City at Chelmer Park. The girls were well briefed for this one as I wanted the double big time as pay back time for that report sent to the paper. We started off strong straight into our passing game(the way we played against Chelsea)oh Tottenham we love you and it wasn’t long before the goals came, our midfield and Christy's pace was to much and Christy put us in front. Once we had made the break through the flood gates opened as Charlotte rattled in a sweet hatrick and Georgia hit one of her thunderbolts which I happened to be on the end of at training and its not nice. We were playing some superb football with the two Rebecca's showing there skills and providing the crucial passes to our striker. The whole team was outstanding with Catherine and Maddy like rocks and our captain Georgia was in control reading the game and everything City tried and when on the rare occasion they got a shot off Bethany was there to meet it. Rebecca Turner put Christy through again and there's only one outcome and that’s the back of the net as we entered half time 6-0 up. I was loving it. Rob was missing for the first half and was most upset when he turned up to find out his beloved team talk was once again not required.
We made some changes for the second half which saw Imogen come close on two occasions and granddad got told off from Nan for singing "can we play you every week". Rebecca James was working hard on the left side and had a shot saved. Charlotte came back on for the last five minutes and Rebecca Turner was now finding lots of space and set Charlotte away for her to score her fourth and our 7th.City scrambled a late goal as it ended 7 - 1 which takes us 5 points clear at the top.
This was a great win and this shows us just how far we have come on and pulled away from these teams we used to be equal to, but the style we play is a joy to watch and to see all you girls enjoying there football makes all the training worth while and we are all very proud of you now lets keep it going
Thanks Paul, Rob
U12’s STONES 0 WRITTLE MINORS 15
The girls totally dominated this game, the passing was crisp and precise and the finishing was clinical. Our defensive four were on song easily snuffing out any danger and then skilfully setting up our attacking moves from the back. The team proved that they are capable of getting goals from every department with 8 different players getting on the score sheet.
RIA got our girl of the match: She wanted to be involved in everything and showed great hunger and tenacity.

U11’s GO TOP!!
Great Bradford’s 0 Writtle Minors 3
The girls arrived in Braintree confident of an easy 3 points and a potential chance to head the table. It was a cold Sunday afternoon and we kicked off, having one the toss. From their league position I didn’t think GB would pose to much of an opposition. But they proved me wrong and passed the ball around well; Imogen, our stand in goalie, had a few early balls to contend with, one she heroically saved with her body skidding through the muddy goal mouth!
Having settled down though, Writtle started to probe the oppo’s half and soon our leading goal scorer Christie put us into the lead. Up until half time we dominated, with Christie, Georgia and Charlotte making some excellent runs and the two Rebecca’s passing the ball around confidently. Just before the half time whistle, Christie picked up an excellent throw-in from Rebecca James , turned and left her marker behind and went on to score a deserved second goal.
At half time a few of the girls were asking for a break during the second half - The 2pm K.O. Was starting to take its toll!
We started the Second Half with Catherine on the bench, having already played an excellent first half in defence. Georgia took her place at the back, and together with Maddy played a very solid 30 minutes.
Half way through the second half Georgia took a great corner which swept across the the GB goal mouth to be met by Rebecca James’ boot to make it 3-0.
Now the game was ours and with confidence riding high we played some lovely football – Georgia supplying some lovely ‘up and over the defence’ balls and Rebecca Turner and Charlotte showing some excellent individual skills.
Well done all the girls and in particular Georgia, who won the ‘Girl of the match’ award for an excellent all round performance.
And by the way we are top of the league as Clacton could only manage a draw against Colchester! Check it out on –

U12’s Maldon Town 2 Writtle Minors 2
Maldon came into this game knowing they had never beaten the current league champs and after Writtle opened the scoring the Maldon support must have feared the worse. However Maldon played this game like a cup final with every player chasing lost causes and giving their all. Writtle were not at their best today and could have easily crumbled when Maldon managed to take a 2-1 lead into half time. This Writtle team are made of sterner stuff and started the second half by showing glimpses of the passing football that has illuminated the local leagues; the pressure looked to have paid off as a shot was sent goal wards only for the post to come to Maldons rescue. With 8 minutes to go the the equaliser finally came Writtle finished strongly but on the day the 2-2 score line was a fair result.

U11's WRITTLE MINORS 2 - 1 COLCHESTER TOWN
Last week we entertained Colchester at home and expected a close encounter, which it was and a very good game it was to. They are always strong teams and the girls seem to grow well in that part of Essex, but we had all our girls fit and new if we played our best we could get a result. We kicked off the first half and tried to get our passing game going but Colchester were quick closing us down and put us under some pressure but with Maddy and Catherine at the back and if that fails Bethany between the sticks we can soak it up and play on the counter. After 10 mins we got going and started creating chances with Georgia and Charlotte both comming close and Christy always looked dangerous on the ball. Catherine was getting forward and getting some shots in and knocked a few free kicks in.We started another attack from the back with a quick ball out from Beth to Maddy, through to Charlotte who released Christy who beat one defender and put a inch perfect cross into the box for Rebecca Turner to slot home against the biggest girl on the pitch to put us 1 up which was how it stayed till half time. It was time for the famous team talk and this week Rob appeared with some green fabric under his arm and i heard Georgia mutter "oh no not the Subuteo pitch" at this point i had to step in and rescue the girls as Rob was preparing the flick. Joking apart a serious talk was required as we needed to win this match to keep close to the Crazy gang.
Colchester started the second half well with a couple of half chances but Beth was alert and prevented any danger. Rebecca James had come on for the second half and was straight into the action with some good runs into the box and looking to set Christy up where possiable and having some shots herself. Some more good play through the midfield see the ball passed in to Christy who had her back to goal, pulled off a great turn and hit a low strike passed the keeper and make it 2-0. Imogen came on to strenghen the midfield as Colchester were looking for a way back which see Cathering fly in and take one out and the reff who looked like was carrying a few extra pounds had to step in and keep the cool and a little back chat from Catherine see the reff reach for his pocket but luckely Lisa had the cards in her bag.We was looking for another goal as Rebecca James was full of running after her hols was suppling lots of balls but Immy and Charlotte just could not score. Charlotte came off for a rest and Danielle came on in centre midfield and done us proud in this very important role and requires a lot of hard work. we tired a little and Colchester broke through and scored a very good consalation goal but it was to late and it ended with another win.
Thank you again girls a great performance
Thanks to Sean "the cat " James who reffed for us at short notice and had a good game, can you wear trak suit bottoms in future apparantly the legs are causing a stir with the ladies
Sunday we entertained Heddingham Hawks with only 9 players, unfortunately our own pitch was a disgrace, it resembled a jungle, I don’t think the grass had been cut for weeks. Although Heddingham may not be the best team we have played, they were enthusiastic. Our normal passing game was only seen in patches, but the goals still flowed throughout the game and nearly all the Writtle team got on the score sheet. Sarah was again solid at the back and when told to push forward she took all of 30 seconds to score. Ria & Kelsey was always in control of middle field. Molly who scored from a fantastic free kick together with Emily showed they have a great understanding in opening up defences. Nicole was beating players with ease and was unselfishly creating loads of chances for others. Chelsea played with her usual tenacity and power. Grace worked tirelessly and showed her versatility by playing anywhere on the pitch. Rosie worked tirelessly in midfield & defence was duly named our player of the match.
Although we were not at our best, individually every girl played really well and 17 - 0 isn’t to be sneezed at.
I would like to thank Lee for helping me with the paper work; Maca for helping with the coaching duties; all the parents & Ken for their much appreciated support and most of all the girls for their enthusiasm while Perry was on holiday.

Writtle Win Local Derby
This week saw us take on our local rivals Chelmsford City. We arrived with a depleted squad through illness, holidays & injuries, I was going to put a SOS on the Web site for Ellie to fly back from Cuba but after checking with flight control there were no flights arriving in time (only joking Ellie). Becks had a injured knee and was only coming as a spectator, but while we were making our way to the match I received 2 phone calls from players saying they couldn’t play, Becks finished playing in goal.
We dominated the 1st half and were camped in the Chelmsford half for most of it playing some good passing football. We missed a couple of chances, but finally our player of the match Emily put us 1 nil up. Emily, who went on to claim a hat trick, was an inspiration on the right and together with Molly frequently created 1 2’s to cut through the Chelmsford defence time and time again. One exquisite move finished with an exceptional goal by Molly. Hannah was excellent playing a more disciplined role but still found time to score, together with a non stop all-action Rosie they marshalled the centre midfield area with ease. We rarely have our defence tested but Sunday Chelmsford was causing us trouble from their right, so Ria & Grace should be praised for their efforts, they worked their socks off and never gave up against the Chelmsford right winger, who gave the best performance by opposition player I seen this season; Not forgetting Sarah, who was astounding in the centre of our defence, she is fast, strong and her determination helped her to make a goal line clearance that was breathtaking. Nicole never ceases to amaze me with her ball wizardry, always willing to get back and defend, her fast reactions got a well deserve goal after the ball was pinging around Chelmsford goal mouth. Chelsea always plays with passion and power, Sunday was no exception and was justly rewarded with her goal. Becks minus football boots (I knew I should have put them in car) went in goal. Her handling of the ball was spot on and she did everything asked of her; now come to think it, she didn’t, she kept on kicking the ball when I told her not to, but when does she ever listen to me.
We controlled the match for much of the game and never looked like losing. Chelmsford was determined and did come into it just after they scored, 1 or 2 of their players did give us concern but we more than coped.
Someone said to me this week ‘Some teams may have only 3 or 4 good players; but Writtle have a team of very good players.’
Most of you knew that Syd was taken to hospital on Sunday; I am glade to report that her foot is not broken but she may be out for a couple of weeks. I am sure that I speak for everyone and wish Syd a speedy recovery.

U13’s Assandun Vikings 3-3 Writtle Minors
This was our first 9-aside clash against Assandun, who had won every match this season and were sitting comfortably at the top of the league.
Without Dave Palmer at the helm (work commitment), the responsibility fell on the shoulders of deputies, Terry and Rob. Whilst Rob was experiencing major Sat-Nav problems with his Dual system ‘Em-Em’ and ‘Till-Till’, it was left to Terry to prepare the girls for action. Using skills handed down by generations of Buddhist Monks the girls were skilfully briefed on the job at hand. Oh all right! I just told them to get out there, have self belief and perform ‘The Writtle Way’.
With Rob and company arriving carrying sticks of Southend and Clacton Rock, the match then started at a cracking pace, setting the scene for the whole match.
It was an extremely even affair with physical but fair challenges from both sides. The game reminded me very much of the Hambro cup final, although I hadn’t expected the score line to follow similar lines. Lauren was again on top form, making fine saves from long distant shots on goal. Kirstie, Aivy and Emily literally fought off strong attacks from the Assandun forwards and their solid clearances were pleasing to see.
Emma, Nicola and Daisie worked their socks off in midfield. Although Emma (Chesty Cold) was substituted for Tilley half way through the first half, she bounced back to contribute further in the second. Daisie’s first challenge was a difficult high ball which she headed away confidently. After that there was no holding her back as we saw her shine in central midfield. The dual role given to Kirstie and Daisie was having a positive effect and for some time we frustrated their long ball game.
Up front we were producing wave after wave of opportunities, Claudia and Charlotte continuing to reform their partnership. All their good work, ably supported by our midfield team was only let down by the finishing. Our decision to kick up hill seemed to be working and we were only 10 minutes from half-time. Tactically we appeared to have the advantage, but in the course of only a few minutes found ourselves 2-0 down as the Vikings cleverly changed the way they were playing. Quick, Through-ball from midfield found our defence flat footed and the speed of their striker finally paid dividends.
Kirstie defended deeper in order to better anticipate the runs on goal and this appeared to work well, so at half-time we remained just two goals down, with everything to play for. For much of the second half saw Writtle dominate, possibly the slope had something to do with it, more likely though because the belief was there. It was not surprising then that after a period of pressure Charlotte pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area to crack in the first of two well taken goals. Suddenly we were 2-2 and we had stung the Vikings into silence. Then from Emma’s corner, Nicola managed to get her foot over the bouncing ball and hammered it home. 2-3!
At this point one would have believed we had the game sown up. Not so. The goal just seemed to spur Assandun on and they came back at us with a vengeance, during which time they scored an impressive equaliser – impressive in so much that it had to have been well delivered to beat Lauren today. Indeed the brave challenges from Lauren towards the end of the match firmly summed up that this was a point well won!
More importantly this result will ring alarm bells with the other teams. The message is clear – Writtle are back!
Girl of the match went to Daisie, she showed us another side of her game today, confident, physical and the brilliant headers to-boot! Well done Daisie – rightly deserved.
Squad – Tilly, Aivy, Lauren, Emily, Kirstie, Nicola, Emma, Daisie, Charlotte & Claudia.

U11s Clacton 1 v Writtle 0
The girls played one of their hardest games I've seen on Sunday. Clacton were a big side made up of only Year 6's
On the day our team included 3 year 6's and 4 year 5's . Right from the start they put the pressure on - Maddy (half the size of the Clacton forwards) and Georgia at the back took on the pressure with no fear. Beth in goal had an absolute blinder, making some fantastic saves .The midfield ( Charlotte , Imy and the two Rebecca's) fought so hard and supplied Christie up front with lots of chances on goal (more than Clacton over the 60 minutes !).Danniel came on for last 20 mintes and put everything into her game. On the day , we were very unlucky. The score 1-0 to Clacton was not a fair result. After the game the girls were exhausted -even my Georgia had an hour kip in the afternoon which I've never seen before !!
Girls - you played so well and Paul and I are so, so proud of you all . Let's bounce back with a win on Sunday.
COME ON WRITTLE

U12 Clacton Athletic 0 Writtle Minors 10
Sunday saw us travel up the A12 to Little Clacton to take on Clacton Athletic with a depleted squad of 9. Clacton a new team fielded several experienced players who played boys football last season were determined to make it hard for us, they certainly gave us problems early on in the game. Could our girls overcome a resolute Clacton; the heat, having no recognised goalkeeper? Could they cope with no subs? Earlier on with tough tackles coming from both sides it was hard for us to set a pattern for the game, but once our girls realized this wasn't going to be a pushover, Writtle's class saw us gradually take the upper hand and into a 2-0 lead. Just as we were feeling ‘comfortable‘, a harsh decision saw the referee give a penalty to Clacton. Would it be 2-1? Not a chance! a superb save by Hannah kept out the fiercely hit shot. This spurred our side on, now we were physically stronger and also we were playing some good passing football with it. Nicole and Ellie on the wings were each having fine games, both going past players at will. Molly was now finding space on her overlaps, Rona put in a battling performance being asked to play out of position on the left and then capped it with a well taken goal, Becks as strong as ever made some great tackles, Hannah was industrious as ever, Morgan & Chelsea battled throughout and were a constant danger to the Clacton goal. Kelsey on her league debut played with strength, passed the ball well and scored 2 great goals was awarded the player match award. The score in the end was 10-0, it felt a lot closer didn't really reflect how hard our girls were made to work by Clacton. All the goals were good goals, each was either after a quality move or a good strike on goal, I don’t think there was a scrappy one amongst them. It's good to see the girls passing more out to the wide positions and not just trying to beat 2 or 3 players with no end product. All in all a terrific performance, well done girls for the great start you have made this season.

U13 Hambro Colts 1 – 1 Writtle Minors.
Hambro obviously had revenge on their minds as, despite losing to them in both our last year’s league matches, we had triumphed against them in the cup final. Added to this they had just experienced losing their first match of the 2006/7 campaign to the new combined Maldon/Focus Ferrers team and, as such, were out for some payback today.
We know them as a physical side who know how to kick a ball and this was evident once again. It quickly became a war of attrition as the players from both teams got stuck in. In a game like this if you don’t take the opportunities then the match can slip either way and this was evident today as each team had a number of chances which could not be finished off. Perhaps this is a sign of the respect each of our two teams gives to the other, or perhaps it just shows how similar we are in football standards.
Lauren protected our goal well as Hambro stole through our defence line early on without success. However it was Writtle who went ahead half way through the first half by virtue of a ‘poachers goal’ from Emma, which was deftly struck into the corner of the opposition net when the ball broke free within the Hambros penalty area. Our girls were now working extremely hard. Aivy, Kirstie and Paige were under a constant barrage of attacks and the midfield trio of Nicola, Emily and Emma had little time to work the ball forward as they were constantly harassed by the opposition. You could see them all physically tire in the melee. Our forward line of Sophie and Charlotte were being forced to find their own ball and thus the midfield area became congested as a result. It wasn’t pretty football but everyone knuckled down to their tasks in the circumstances.
The second half saw us now defending against the slope and with Aivy sidelined due to a dead leg, it was Beth’s turn to get involved. To be fair Beth, our usual goalie, has seen Lauren play outstanding in this position and it must have been very difficult for her to come in and undertake an outfield position at short notice. We shouldn’t have worried as Beth’s enthusiasm and commitment was clearly in evidence as she too got stuck-in. To be fair though, Hambro’s pressure was starting to tell up front and, in the last quarter of the game they finally got their reward and the game suddenly came alive as they pushed for the winner. Things were then to get worse as Lauren injured her shoulder in a challenge and could take no further part. Beth took over in goal and finished the game with a self assured attitude which held our nerve. Indeed Writtle suddenly produced chances of our own, Sophie powered through to be stopped only by the keeper and Nicola had a great shot saved, to name but a few.
Final result 1-1 and definitely a case of one point well deserved today. Girl of the Match was awarded to Beth for her total attitude today, for the way she came off the bench and performed so well in an outfield position and then for returning to her usual goal-keeping role in such an assured way. Well done Beth.

U12's Maldon Town 1 Writtle Minors 6 1st Sept 06
The u12's tuned up for the start of the season with this fantastic result. Although we have never lost to Maldon they always make things difficult and its normally a low scoring game. After a sluggish start the girls really turned on the style, pulling Maldon all over the pitch with some great passing and finishing. Every player would have been worthy of our girl of the match today but BECKS-- was on fire, getting involved with everything, Her ball winning in the middle of the park was fantastic along with some great distribution.
Well Done girls!!
U12 West Ham 0 Writtle Minors 1. 29th Aug 06
In a game of few chances Writtle's greater possession finally paid dividends with 10 minutes to go. Han ,Becks,Ellie,Nic,Kelsey,Morgan worked their socks off in midfield never giving the hammers a chance to settle on the ball. Sarah, Ria and Syd communicated brilliantly and had plenty of power and pace to keep the hammers at bay at the back.
I was very pleased with the amount of effort all our girls put and it was very difficult to pick out a girl of the match. Today two players get the nod. Emily-- has been on our books for a couple of years now and is clearly raring to go in what will be her first proper season for us. After switching to the striker role in the second half her tenacity and hunger for the ball had the west Ham defence quaking. A great run and cool finish rounded off superb second half. Molly - The game can be a million miles an hour but Molly has this knack of making time and space for herself again and again. Defensively formed a great understanding with Sarah and Ria, her passing was spot on and was also an attacking threat from the back through out .
We have started as we mean to go on
05/06 Match Reports
28th May 2006 U11 Denham Tournament
We were on our travels again and you guessed it once again it was raining Cats and dogs (what’s happened to the summer).
After struggling through all sorts off roadworks we finally arrived and were looking forward to our first game. The format was 6 a side and only 7 minutes per game which acts as a great leveller. After a slow start we played some terrific football which had other managers picking us out as the potential winners. The group stage was negotiated without a problem and we went into the quarter final full of confidence. Not for the first time this season the team we faced had been imported from the land of the giants .However our girl’s are used to this and proceeded to out play the opposition, with a minute to go a long shot from our opponents took a wicked deflection and our run came to an end. Although we were all a little frustrated, we have to accept that over such a short game anything can happen .The tournaments are fun (believe it or not?) and act as part of our preparation for the more important matter of League and cup football next season
21st MAY 2006 THE MALDON TOURNAMENT
U10’S WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Last weekend we travelled to Maldon to take part in our first competitive tournament called The Soccer 6 and we took it by storm. The girls were buzzing and when we saw the line up. We knew we could do it, the only concern being Enfield Ladies which turned out to be our first opponents. We put out a strong line up for this one and although Enfield played some nice passing football, we dominated the game and won 1-0. The next game was against Rayleigh Raiders who were under the cosh from the kick off, the girls showed what they can do and hit 5 goals in 10 minutes which is a great achievement. Catherine and Maddy were as solid as usual and I’m not sure where Catherine keeps putting these burgers. The next game was against more new opposition, Leigh Ramblers and again we played great football and won 2-0 and attracted the Colchester Utd academy coaches who were impressed with a number of our girls and commented on our style of play (oh Tottenham we love you.) We went through our group stage with 4 wins and 2 draws and without conceding any goals.
This strong start saw us win our group and into our first final against Enfield Ladies so we new we had to play well to win. The camp was buzzing and Rob had found a few more new lines for a final talk on tactics and planning in case it went to pens. We had a little break before the final and it was nice to see Maddy's mum had brought the rain again.
We picked the starting line up remembering we needed our penalty takers on at the end. We had the best chances with Rebecca Turner hitting the post and having two saved, Christy stung the keeper’s hands and Charlotte was going for glory. It was now looking like it would go to the penalty shoot out and having Beth out injured I had managed to get Syd in.
The final whistle went and the nerves kicked in but it was a great moment seeing the girls in a shoot out. The penalty takers were named and away we went. Catherine was first up and she had already scored in the match and was on a high, she placed the ball, the keeper thought she was in Reds, she took a long run up and hit it but some how the keeper saved it, this keeper had kept them in it.
It was Syds turn to perform and she tipped it over the bar to the tune of (are you Robo in disguise ) and seany james had witnessed the new cat.
Next up was Rebecca Turner, she hit a good pen but a little to straight and the keeper managed to hang onto it, it was down to Syd again , she was eye balling their taker and it worked as she hit one straight into Syds arms.
It was now getting tight and the stress was showing as Georgia stepped up and being captain she new what was required as she belted it into the goal and there was a sigh of relief in the camp. Back to Syd again and she saved another and now Syd had to take her pen and she blasted it in which put us in a great position as Enfield stepped up. This was a good pen Syd got her fingers to it but it went in, this put the pressure on our next taker which was Christy, mum couldn’t bear to watch but she is on top of her game and she made no mistake as she curled it into the top corner. Now Syd could be the hero if she could save this one, we all huddled round as the ball was placed and Syd choose the right way and turned it round the post, there was a great roar as we celebrated and I think Rob and I have torn a few muscles. Squad was SYD, MADDY, CATHERINE, REBECCA JAMES, REBECCA TURNER, IMOGEN , GEORGIA, CHRISTY ,CHARLOTTE goals from Catherine, imogen, Christy, Rebecca j and charlotte.
A big thank you for the perfect end to the day and you have made me and Rob proud to be managers of Writtle Minors u10’s
Let’s keep this form for next season
I would like to thank all the parents for there support today and through out the whole season
Thanks Paul & Rob
U11’S
The u11’s went to this event full of confidence after securing the double last week. There were 18 teams taking part and you had to win the group to be sure of going through. From the outset you could see this was going to be the group of death as our old friends West Ham were in our group.
The girls played brilliantly in all five of their games not conceding a goal or losing a game, however despite being dominant in all our matches we didn’t qualify for the semis. That’s tournaments for, with games only lasting 10 minutes you need a little luck to progress.
This format always proves to be a great leveller but I’m sure if our girl’s continue to play their passing football a couple of finals are well within their capabilities.
Well done girl’s I was well pleased with you all

U12’S
Fresh from their dramatic cup win last week the u12’s were sure to put in a good showing.
They played some nice stuff but narrowly missed out on the semis by goal difference.
14 May 06: Essex County Cup Cup finals. SUPER SUNDAY! AS GIRL’S BRING THE CUPS HOME TO WRITTLE.
U11’s GIRLS DO THE DOUBLE AT FIRST ATTEMPT!!
WRITTLE MINORS 2 MALDON TOWN 1
The long league and cup season came to an end with the u11’s lifting the Essex cup. Throughout the year the girls had already played 29 games and had entertained all with some terrific passing football. Writtle came into this one looking to make it an unbeaten season and lift the cup in the process. From the kick off it was clear this much improved Maldon team hadn’t read the script as they worked their socks off to knock Writtle out of their rhythm. It was a frantic start to the game but eventually Writtle started to get the ball down and play and after 15 minutes took the lead after a powerful Molly Kelleher shot was deflected past the Maldon keeper. Maldon hit back when a speculative high kick took a massive bounce and squeezed into the net. The second half saw plenty of determination from Maldon but Writtle showed that little bit more quality to edge it. The winner coming after a goal bound effort came back off the post and Morgan Hammond smashed the ball into the net.
The u12’s fresh from their cup victory joined in the celebrations as this emotionally charged occasion took its toll on many a supporter and parent(managers and coaches included).
Go on admit it, a bigger tear jerker than any Lassie film(before your time kids).
U12’s Girls Match Report – 15th May 2006. CUP FINAL
Writtle Minors 3 - Hambros Colts 2
We travelled to Maldon today buoyed by the semi-final win last weekend. The weather was kind to the girls, overcast and mild with a slight breeze which really gave no team an unfair advantage. The pitch was very sandy but it held up well under the circumstances.
The girls knew that today was going to be the toughest test yet; Hambro had beaten us on both previous occasions in the league and they had already run away with the league title. The double must have seemed a reality for them but, we all know that Cup matches are a different game! All our Cup pre-match arrangements went to plan (top secret stuff!!!) and there was an immense feeling of confidence oozing from each and everyone of them as they were ceremoniously led out onto the pitch – The coaches work was over – over now to the girls to perform.
Hold on…Why are we writing a report when you were all there anyway?!!! We must have the best behaved, most vocal and supportive supporters around the girls football circuit. We saw Mums, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Grand Parents, God Parents, Cousins, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all. I am sure you could all put together your own version of events, perhaps much better than ours as we all struggled to memorise individual aspects of play in the light of an electric performance from both sides.
Suffice it to say the first half saw 30 minutes of thrust and counter thrust, both teams giving 150% into every crunching tackle as it became apparent that nobody was prepared to give each other space. Kirstie, Aivy and Emily were solid in defence, Emma had thrown herself into tackles as if her life depended on it and has the bruises to prove it! Daisie was thumping the ball forward at every opportunity, never allowing the Hambro midfield time on the ball. Even Beth was getting in on the act as she stormed out of goal on numerous occasions to claim the ball.
How such a physical first half could have been played in such a fair and sportingly way was beyond comprehension – a credit to both sets of girls and the reactions/banter between the two team’s management staff!!! At half time each team came off knowing they had been in a battle. We were surely in for a splendid second half.
Yes we were, but not in the way we would have preferred. What had been until now a solid defence wall was showing signs of tiring and Hambro were beginning to push balls through the gaps in the hope that their forward players could wrong foot our defence. This finally paid off, we were caught napping as we played Hambro onside and one of their strikers confidently slid the ball wide of Beth. 0 -1.
No sooner had we had to deal with this when, after a well struck corner sped across our goal mouth at speed, the striker coolly blasted a second into our net. At this stage you would have been entitled to believe that Writtle were done for, but our girls came back with a mature determination to get something back from this game. During this period one Hambro forward went down with a twisted knee and could not take any further part.
Suddenly we were piling on the pressure, a number of changes saw Claudia back on the pitch for Sophie who had worked tirelessly up front, this was a second opportunity for Claudia who had been substituted in the first half as she struggled to get involved. We were now playing the old Writtle way, with Nicola, Charlotte and Claudia finally linking together (it’s been a long time since we saw the three of you like this). 7 minutes to go and a pass to Claudia inside the box gave us the best opportunity so far, however it was not easy as Hambro had a number of girls behind the ball. Right on cue, Claudia turned, saw a space and drove the ball into the back of the net 1-2!
We were back and how!!! We saw thrusting runs up the line from Paige and Nicola, Tilley was now on battling for every ball in midfield and you could feel something special was coming. Once again our girls found themselves in the Hambro penalty area and just when you thought that the ball was going to be cleared yet again, Charlotte managed to get her foot to the ball and it rebounded off a defender into the path of Nicola. At this point everything went into slow motion as Nicola appeared to spend ages (1 second really) waiting to strike the ball into the top left hand corner 2-2!
Extra time beckoned and the girls were clearly up for the fight. The first half went quickly BUT one unfortunate accident really turned the game. The Hambro goalie intercepted a through ball and in an effort to clear quickly she dropped kicked the ball straight at a retreating defender. It was clearly a serious injury and the girl was unconscious for a short period. After being carried off it was clear that the injury had affected the Hambro players, one of which was her sister.
The game went on, it was soon the second half of extra time. Many could sense that penalties were now inevitable and Terry was now chewing his nails as he had been left in charge to decide on penalty takers. What transpired though was a bit of brilliance from Nicola has she enticingly floated a cross in front of the Hambro goalie and as Charlotte lunged forward a defender intercepted the danger into her own net. 3-2.
The final minutes were frantic but controlled and as the final whistle blew we finally realised we were the champions. There was a short period though of muted celebration as our thoughts were with the Hambro girl as she was taken away by ambulance – we now know that thankfully she is okay. Thank goodness!
A great day for both sides, Hambro had won the league, we had won the cup and all the girls were a wonderful advert for girls football today!

10's MALDON TOURNAMENT
Last week we played in another tournament at Maldon where we went un beaten and conceded no goals which is great credit to Beth and the rock solid defence in Maddy and Catherine. We had Georgia back in centre midfield this week after her tour at Butlins and she came back in fine form but dad was still looking a little frail. We got off to a fine start getting revenge over Colchester and we were playing the Tottenham way before the poisoning incident although we were without Danni who failed a late fitness test but came along to cheer on her team mates (dad was making enough noise for everyone. Joking apart the quality of football was first class and one goal stands out where every girl touched the ball from defence to attack and Immy slotted in from a cross from Rebecca T. and Rebecca J hit a thirty yarder ,needed that at Upton Park Again all girls played there part and Beth pulled off the save of the tournament against Chelmsford City as the crowd sang England, England’s no 1.
Goals from Immy x 3
Charlotte x 2
Rebecca T x 1
Rebecca J x 1
Saw us finish top of our group winning 4 and drawing l
Wins against Colchester, Chelmsford, Maldon Saints and Brentwood
U10's BRENTWOOD TOURNAMENT
Two weeks ago we travelled to the Brentwood centre to take part in a u10’s festival where our young girls played well
Grace made a first team appearance in goal and done us proud and kept the heat on Beth who was playing for some other north London team She made some great saves and had the ball kicked out of her hands against Brentwood but we battled back to win 2-1.
We were also without our left back (maddy) so Immy helped us out
All the girls did well and goals from Christy, Immy and Charlotte saw us win 2, draw 2 and lose 1

U12’s Girls Match Report. Writtle Minors FC 4 – 3 Leigh Rockets (Cup Semi-Final)
Having saw Hambro wear down Assunden Vikings in the previous semi-final encounter, it was our turn to play on a well presented surface at Buckhurst Hill FC.
No semi-final is easy and the nerves were clearly showing as we began playing under a blazing sun. Early signs were good on balance, but a misunderstanding in defence saw a terrible mix-up, with the ball going between Beth’s legs – we were 1 – 0 down!
This woke us up and gradually we started to dominate, although the Rockets were always quick and dangerous on the breaks. There were numerous unsuccessful shots on goal, including a memorable strike by Charlotte just outside the box which clattered the cross-bar. The pressure finally paid off as Charlotte finally steered a shot into the net.
By half time both teams looked relieved for a break as the heat started to take its’ toll. The game restarted in similar fashion and it was not until half-way through the second half did we see the next goal. In the opposition goal area, Emma prevented Leigh’s defence from clearing the ball and her dogged determination paid off as she scored from an impossible angle which deflected off the goalie to make it 2-1.
After that time we saw a period of great play as Charlotte began to find her form and a number of pulsating runs ended in two well taken goals as a result. We looked in control now’ it was 4-1 and only ten minutes to go. However we had not bargained for a come back as we had expected Leigh heads to go down. This DID NOT HAPPEN, and we were subjected to a barrage of pressure that had us on the ropes.
Despite all our efforts Leigh Rockets scored not once but twice in the last few minutes and we were grateful to hear the final whistle. They were worthy opponents today and deserve due respect.
Girl of the Match went to Charlotte with her hat trick of goals, she is returning to form just at the right moment – welcome back Charlotte. Mention must go however to ALL our girls, this IS a squad thing and EVERYONE has played their part. We look forward to next weeks final with a full squad (Claudia is returning from Holidays). Let’s give Hambro a run for their money!!!
Squad: Beth, Aivy, Kirstie (Captain), Emily, Nicola, Daisie, Emma, Sophie, Charlotte, Lydia, Paige and Tilly.

01/05/06 Butlins Tournament.
Well done to all our girl's this weekend, The u11's won their event and made friends along the way with their passing football. The u12's were in a very evenly matched tournament and also played some great stuff, that on another day would have seen them walk away with the title, A couple of draws against the winners and the runners up saw them narrowly just miss out. Still I think once again this weekend the football was secondary as all our girl's had a ball on the butlins resort.
U12 23/04/06 QUARTER FINAL JOY!!
WICKFORD 0 WRITTLE MINORS 3
Terry sends his apologies.
Due to personal business there is no report.
However what a fantastic result for the u12's,they swept into the Semi final of the cup with this display.
CLAUDIA-was our girl of the match with a deverstating two goal blast.
Let's all get behind them at the semi final on 7th May.
U10 23/04/06 Redbridge 0 - 4 Writtle Minors
This week saw us travel away to take on Redbridge, the last time we played them at home we ran out 5-1 winners but this is no easy fixture and there girls can play football. We hadn't trained for 3 weeks and after a few shaky minutes we started to get going. We had a scare early on when Redbridge were clean through but she blasted her shot against the post but credit to Beth who came out and forced her wide.
It was our turn now to start playing some Tottenham style flowing football with Georgia controlling centre midfield and Rebecca James and Rebecca Turner working the flanks we soon started to pull Redbridge apart. The first goal was sure to follow and when Rebecca T played a 1-2 with Catherine she was away and put a Carrick type ball into the box (me and macca thought we were at the LANE) and Christy hit with some force and the keeper made a great save but as the ball came out Rebecca James was there to slot home.
We carried on building from the back and Catherine and Maddy were top class and some of Maddys tackles brought tears to my eyes and Catherine has grown in confidence this season and now runs with the ball and looks up before making the pass which lead to the second goal, passed to Georgia then to Rebecca J who produced some Brazilian skills(the cat is back) and set Christy on her way, but she still had work to do as she cut inside on to that deadly right foot and hit a screamer into the top left corner parts of the crowd were singing Harewood,Harewood whats the score and it turned out to be a carbon copy of Sundays winner. This saw us into the break at 2-0 up.
We made two changes before half time with Immy and Charlotte swapping for the two Rebecca's which gives us great strength at this stage of the game. Immy soon made her presence felt with some crunching tackles and Charlotte was a hand full and with some great skills on the way she went through the whole defence and slotted home our third, Ken thought it was all over as he sang there's only one Charlotte Ellis. We now have to pay Ian and Boreham School a percentage of her signing on fee. As we entered the final stages Grace came on for Maddy who had worked her socks off and the extra training dad is putting in showed with her passes out of defence.
Georgia was having another blinder causing all sorts of problems with her long throws and she hit the crossbar on various occasions but the ball fell to Christy who grabbed her second goal of the game and we came out 4-0 winners
As you may of noticed the half time team talk professor flew in later on suited and booted as he returned from a scouting mission in Scotland with some of Steve Frostiks money, but I'm sure the girls he's brought are for the u21's (sorry Bren) any volunteers to manage the u21's. Just a reminder we did have a goalie and on the few occasions we needed her she was there alert and dealt with the danger.
This was one of our best games with quality football from start to finish and we played 30 mins each way to warm up for the league and the girls made me and Rob proud to be managing Writtle Minors Girls
Also had some great comments from Redbrdge manager who said we play great football and always likes to play us as we try to entertain and what friendly girls we have. He hasn't seen us loose yet.
Thank you all again and for making it possible
Catherine earnt herself player of the match but today you all could of won it

Essex FA SEMI FINAL CLASSIC. WRITTLE MINORS 2 WEST HAM 2
Writtle win 3-0 on penalties
This was an encounter of epic proportions. Writtle started the first half displaying technical ability far beyond their years as they dominated proceedings. The Minor’s slick football soon paid dividends with two beautifully taken goals. It looked all over for the Hammers as Writtle pushed for that third goal that would have surely put the game safe. However just before the break the Hammers sent out a warning as a fantastically struck free kick hit the bar. The half time whistle sounded and soon the second period was under way. The game was following the same pattern when out of the blue a generous corner was awarded to West Ham and after a great delivery the ball was stabbed home. The Minors had had the game at their mercy but now it was West Ham that had the bit between their teeth. The equaliser came after a great turn from the West Ham striker in her own half, she then showed great control taking the ball all the way to the Writtle penalty area and then slotting home. The game now ebbed and flowed and went into extra time, both teams had chances and no one deserved to be on the losing side.
The whistle went and the youngsters now faced the dreaded penalty shoot out. Three perfect penalties a post and two cracking saves saw writtle go through to the final at Maldon on May 14th .
This match was a great advert for the girl’s game and would have graced any final.
U11 02/04/06
Writtle 1 Tottenham Hotspurs 1.............
Tottenham came into this game having won the herts league for the second year running and poised to do the same in their cup competition. They deservedly had the honour of being ranked no 1 in Herts. So the seen was set, Essex champions V Herts champions, something had to give.
We had a slightly longer team talk than normal and I could tell the girls were focused and knew what they had to do. With the final instructions of “go out there and impress us” ringing in their ears, the whistle went, and we were off.
Our girl’s were a second faster in every department and within 8 minutes after a fantastic passage of passing play the ball was brilliantly turned into the net. This doesn’t happen to often to this talented Tottenham side, would they now come back or would we get a second. Tottenham tried to raise their game but found our defence like a brick wall. The brilliant structure at the back allowed us to push forward and create 3 or 4 great opportunities. Already you could see that the spurs keeper was in line for their player of the match, pulling off some good saves. At half time we felt the 1-0 score had not done us justice but with the girl’s playing so well surely it was only a matter of time before we doubled our lead, we were expecting a backlash.Spurs came out determined to strike back but again they could find no way through. It was proving to be a frustrating day for the Hert’s champions .After 40 Minutes Spurs had not managed to trouble the writtle keeper with a shot on target compared with Writtle's 6. Writtle had just put another breathtaking move together and had come within inches of the second goal, when for the first time in the match, a Tottenham player had found her self in space and from out side the box unleashed a shot of power that swerved with the wind and hit the net. Tottenham now had their tails up and to be fair had a good 6 or 7 minutes of pressure, against any other team I'm sure Tottenham would now expect the opposition to crumble, but Writtle were having none of it. Some more brilliant defensive work saw off the Tottenham revival and then Writtle finished the match with 15minutes of pure quality, which even had the spurs coaches singing their praises. The only thing missing was the second goal.
The final whistle saw the spurs fans crown their keeper girl of the match. The spurs parents took time at the end to chat I think the keeper’s dad summed the match up by saying
“We only had one shot on goal how did we get a draw out of that”
The biggest compliment was probably from their manager who is trying to get what he considers some of the best u11 girls teams in the country together to showcase the girl’s game.It was a great that he asked if we would be interested.
Girl of the match: Today we gave it to the whole squad, to play such brilliant passing football against a team of champions(Spurs are a great team and play the game the right way) was amazing. It was a great performence from all the Writtle squad. The fact that the match ended 1-1 was mainly due to a fine performance by Tottenham's keeper (their girl of the match). Although disappointed with the draw, we have got to be more then pleased with the exceptional performance's by every member of the Writtle squad.

Hutton 0 - 5 Writtle Minors
We had convincingly beaten these opponents on both previous occasions this season, however with an ever-increasing sick/absentee list our confidence was beginning to wane. As we know anything can happen in Cup Matches and the odds were beginning to stack up against us. We had no Charlotte or Aivy and Emily was forced from her sick bed to provide us with some much-needed defensive support in the first half.
It was a great relief and delight therefore to hear at the last moment of the return of Claudia, albeit still in recovery mode from long-term injury and available only fleetingly today.
Whilst the weather conditions were good the pitch was suffering from previous day’s heavy showers and Beth had to decide whether to stand in the deep end or shallow in goal!
Knowing that we had limited time with Claudia, we gambled on keeping her in reserve to begin with and relied on Nicola and Sophie to attack the Hutton defence. Hutton are an ever-improving side and they took the game to us but our defence line of Kirstie, Emily and Emma held strong. Beth was little troubled and when called upon was bright and positive.
Paige, Nicola and Lydia were battling well in midfield and linked well with the forwards. After ten minutes we got a lucky break, a well timed run from Nicola down the right wing saw her attempting a long range shot, which looked safe in the hands of the Hutton goalie, but somehow slipped through to find the net.
After 15 minutes a change was called with Claudia and Daisie brought on to re-ignite midfield/forward play. From the restart, Emily’s long throw-in found Claudia who, with her first touch of the game, turned and ran through to slot the ball confidently past their keeper – what a way to return!.
After this we were in full control and further goals quickly followed from Nicola (great strike), Sophie (tap-in from cross) and again Claudia.
At half time 0-5 should have felt home and dry, however during the break we said goodbye to Emily who had done a sterling job for us in the circumstances – thanks Emily! As soon as she had left Nicola suddenly succumbed to a stomach complaint and was unable to restart the second half. At this stage we had no more substitutes available, neither did we have cover for Claudia who we knew had to leave us once 15 minutes of the second half had elapsed.
What we then saw was a determined and professional holding performance from the remaining girls and, whilst it was fair to say that we still had chances that we were unable to put away, their overall resolution to hold out for a win carried our girls through - even with 8 players for most of the second half!
Girl of the Match went to Kirstie who, in the Gaffers own words, did a ‘Tony Adams’ in defence and led by example, thwarting the Hutton attacks as we began to obviously tire. Beth was always on hand to block any shots on goal that did manage to find there way through and kept a clean sheet.
0-5 final score and this has taken us through to the Quarter Final where we will be playing Wickford Town from the ‘South’ League. They have scrapped through their last two cup rounds and they will now have to face at last, a fully fit and determined Writtle squad, which must give us great hope of moving towards the semi-final in fine style.
