Little Thurrock Dynamos 2   vs Writtle Minors 2

Writtle travelled to LTD for this top of the table clash in what promised to be a hard fought game. And so it proved with both teams battling hard on a windy and at times rained swept day.
Writtle had the better chances in the early stages and they finally got the breakthrough when Kaylee Dodd, Writtles Player of the Match latched onto a great through ball from Becky Wagstaff to put the visitors ahead.
LTD came out fighting after the break and got the equalizer after some confusion in the Writtle defence. The teams were pretty evenly match at this stage and it took a great individual goal by Sophie Wander to put Writtle back in front midway through the half. But the lead was short lived as again LTD came back and scored almost from the restart with a great finish to give the keeper no chance.
So with the spoils shared it’s as you were in the race for the league title.

Island Girls 2-3 Writtle Minors

All the girls worked really hard today on a windy pitch against tough opposition to win their first 7 aside game.
After great early defensive work from Lilley, Charlotte G and Abbie (guest goalkeeper) Charlotte F scored to put Writtle ahead. However, Island Girls reponded strongly scoring twice before Alice equalised just before Half Time
With both teams pushing for a third Laura and Emma combined superbly in midfield before Emma rounded the keeper and
scored Writtle's winner.

Girls U14’s County Cup Match 1st Round

Colchester Town 0 vs Writtle Minors 5

Writtle’s first ever venture into the County Cup coupled with their debut at 11-a-side saw them travel to ColchesterTown.
With a reorganized side to cope with the extra numbers and pitch size, Writtle looked comfortable from the start creating chances and keeping things tight at the back.
The deadlock was broken when Elle Georgiou ran onto a through ball beating the keeper with a clinical finish. Writtle’s lead was doubled midway through the1st half with again Georgiou finishing well on the run.
With only one substitute available all the girls had to work really hard and their efforts were rewarded when Georgiou completed a well deserved hatrick early in the 2nd half. The goal of the game though came courtesy of Sophie Haydon who went on a great run on the left, cutting inside and beating the Colchester keeper with a curling shot inside the far post.
The scoring was completed by Haydon who pounced onto a loose ball in the box smashing the ball home from close range.
Despite all the attacking flair on display, another clean sheet saw the Player of the Match award go to defender Georgia Sleep who was as solid at the back as anyone has been all season.

Hawkwell Athletic 1 vs Writtle Minors 2 (ECGFL League)

Writtle travelled to Hawkwell where they came up against a well organized home side. Writtle started the better but with both teams creating chances the breakthrough eventually came after 15 minutes when Sophie Wander latched onto a long throw from Kaylee Dodd to beat the keeper with a clinical finish.
Their lead was short lived when Hawkwell broke with pace down the right flank with their attacker just reaching the ball before the advancing Writtle keeper to slot into the empty net.
The second half continued in much the same vain with both teams creating chances but with the defenses holding firm it looked like the points were going to be shared.
However with just 10 minutes to go Wander was reintroduced to the game and from a Sophie Haydon corner, and with her first touch, she volleyed the ball home from close range.
Still Hawkwell pressed for the equalizer but the Writtle defence, who were excellent all game, kept them at bay   in the closing minutes to see the game out.
A tough match played in a great spirit by both teams.
Writtle’s Player of the Match was Brogan Lambert.

Barking Ladies FC   0   -   Writtle Minors FC   9 (Friendly).

Following our last match defeat to West Ham, we wanted to get back to winning ways. Sure enough, the girls did not let us down. Playing away at Barking Ladies our girls had to work really hard in the first half with a tight match in prospect. A goal from Charlotte Ellmore settled things down giving confidence to the rest of the side. We continued to maintain good shape throughout the first half and with another goal from striker Nicole Hull we slowly began to control the game in all areas. Defensively, Ellie Bowdidge and Niamh Gamble rarely looked troubled and the midfield of Maddie Archer, Charlotte Ellmore and the Frost twins, Emma and Laura we were superb, Barking   not calling upon our first half goalkeeper, Charlotte Fleming.
The second half began as we left off, Nicole Hull this time volunteering for goalkeeping duties. Another goal early in the second half well taken from Charlotte Ellmore steaming through from midfield made it 3-0. Charlotte Fleming took over strikers duties with Emma Frost and Maddie Archer in support. Charlotte Fleming soon added another two goals but our midfielders really shone with a hat-trick from Laura Frost and Charlotte Ellmore’s third the result was never in doubt.   Barking very nearly capitalised on a lapse in our concentration towards the end but at the final whistle a superb performance from all the girls sealed a victory 9-0. Our squad is beginning to take shape and we can really look forward with confidence to the league matches proper starting in January.

Writtle U9 Girls held a mini tournament at Paradise Road, Saturday. Three clubs from around the county brought teams to make a Mini league of Six.
With all teams playing 5 x 10 minute games over 2 hours.
All the girls involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the standard of football keeps on getting better every game. Writtle were pleased to welcome a new team member (Lilly Crispin) who proved herself as a great addition.
There was one goal in particular that was 2 / 1 touch football from start to finish, involving all team members from back to front without the other team getting close!
More matches were confirmed afterwards with talk of moving the u9's upto a 7-aside format.

Writtle Minors 5 vs Hutton 0 (league)

Writtle went into the match unbeaten but with several players unavailable most notably their goalkeeper, the game promised to be a tough test.
Faith Candice, Writtle’s player of the match, deputised in goal in the first half and kept Writtle in the match with a stunning save midway through the first half. With a strong wind blowing the game was scrappy until Sophie Wander latched on to a through ball to put the home side in front. Confusion in the Hutton defence saw them concede a penalty which Sophie Haydon dispatched.
In the second half and with the wind and slope against them Writtle had to dig deep to keep on top. Wander was their second goalkeeper of the day and excelled between the posts thwarting some dangerous attacks from Hutton.
But hard work reaped its rewards with further goals from Elle Georgiou, Kaylee Dodd and Molly Archard seeing Writtle to another excellent result.

U10's
WMFC 0 vs West Ham 8 (FRIENDLY)

Our visitors today were West Ham. Our team was severely depleted due to our dual signings playing an U11’s match in Corringham so we fielded a side of some U9’s , U10’s and a couple of U11’s. Nevertheless, Writtle started well with Francesca Burrows, our goalkeeper, making a stunning save which gave our girls great confidence.   However, West Ham proved to be really well drilled and seemed a good year or so older in both age and technique and started to dominate the game in most departments. Niamh Gamble in defense, Maddie Archer in Midfield and Charlotte Fleming in attack worked tirelessly but we were completely overrun by West Ham who seemed to shoot from anywhere and everywhere ending up leading by 4-0 at half time despite Francesca continuing to make some great saves. We played a much better second half, although conceding another four goals, at least two of those were pretty lucky and we spent much more time in the West Ham half but just couldn’t find an opening. All in all, our team including U9’s Alice Baukham, Laura and Emma Frost and an U11, Darcy O’Shea played well but were just outclassed on the day.
At least one West Ham side is playing well!!

Chelmsford City 0 vs Writtle Minors 4

Writtle travelled to Chelmsford for their first away match of the league campaign and came up against a well organized and resilient home side.
For most of the first half the football was played in the centre third with few chances being created by either side. The breakthrough finally came with Georgia Sleep netting after persistent work upfront. Writtle doubled their advantage when Ellie Georgiou finished smartly from close range.
With Writtle starting the 2nd half 2 goals to the good the pattern continued for much of the next 35 mins. Chances were few and far between until Kaylee Dodd latched onto a long ball over the top and cleverly chipped the advancing Chelmsford keeper.
The scoring was completed late on by Mollie Archard who burst through the Chelmsford defence before rounding the keeper and slotting home into an empty net.
A hard fought game by both sides see Writtle continue their unbeaten run

Hutton A v Writtle Minors 1-0

The u9’s travelled to Dagenham this weekend to play a mini tournament against Dagenham Jay’s and Hutton Girls.
Both of which had 2 teams made up of girls of varying ages from 7-11 the Writtle under 9’s played some great football and more than competed against the bigger girls. Recording 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.
Although the weather was nail bitingly cold making the Nans retreat to the warmth of the cars, the girls thoroughly enjoyed the morning and are looking forward to the reverse fixture due to be held at Paradise Road in November.
Well Done Charlotte, Charlotte, Alice, Emma and Laura.

Writtle Minors 6 vs Brentwood Town 0

Brentwood were the visitors for Writtle’s 3rd league match and they continue their impressive start to the season. Writtle quickly took control of the match with 2 goals from their Player of the Match Mollie Archard. The first a simple tap in after great work from Sophie Wander and the second a superb strike from a direct free kick.
Writtle continue to push forward and they got a third when Ellie Georgiou netted with a fierce right foot volley after persistent work on the right from Archard.
Leading 3-0 at half time Writtle made several changes which quickly paid off with Sophie Hayden scoring with a low strike after excellent work down the right from Kaylee Dodd.
A second for Georgiou with Wander completing the scoring saw Writtle wrap the match up 6-0.
A great all round team performance sees Writtle continue unbeaten this term.

Tigers FC   1   -   Writtle Minors     4

For our second match of the new season, we wanted to continue our winning form. Sure enough, the girls did not let us down. We played away at Tigers FC who fielded a huge squad of 12 players. Our 8 girls had to work really hard but with an early goal by Charlotte Ellmore settling things down, we could play with confidence and maintain good shape throughout the first half.   A couple of near misses by Nicole Hull showed that we were in control of the game, our defence of Maddie Archer, Ellie Bowdidge and midfielder Charlotte Ellmore were superb, with Tigers having only one shot on goal which was dealt with effectively by our first half goalkeeper, Charlotte Fleming.
The second half began as we left off, Nicole Hull this time looping in a shot from 20 yards over the Tigers goalkeeper to make it 2-0. Another goal well taken from Charlotte Ellmore steaming through from midfield made it 3-0. The comfort of this lead saw our coach shuffle the team with Charlotte Fleming taking over strikers duties with twins Laura and Emma Frost and Nicole Hull in support. Tigers pulled a goal back due a lapse in our concentration and against the run of play and another new recruit, Niamh, in right defence and certainly stopped Tigers from scoring another with a really well timed tackle. A third goal for Charlotte Ellmore who stole into the opposition box and tapped in from a couple of yards sealed a very impressive victory, 4-1.

Writtle U9's welcomed Maldon Saints to Paradise Road for the visitors first game. Both teams started brightly with fantastic passing involving all players. After Maddy Archer opened the scoring the Writtle girls continued to pass and tackle well adding further goals from Charlotte Green and Charlotte Fleming. The second half produced more great football and goals from superb debutants Emma and Laura Frost. Maldon scored a break away goal before Alice Bauckham rounded off a great game enjoyed by all.

Writtle Minors 9   vs HAFC 0

For our first match of the new season, our visitors were Hawkwell Athletic. They turned up in force with a lot of support, but Writtle, who were equally well supported, were far too good for Hawkwell on the day. Writtle completely overran Hawkwell and by half time were 6-0 up. Hawkwell seemed to rally in the second half but three more goals sealed a terrific performance all round, Four goals for Holly Connell, two for Nicole Hull and from our ‘new’ twins, Laura and Emma, 2 goals and 1 goal respectively. Goalkeeping duties were shared between Charlotte Ellmore and Darcy who really had nothing to do all afternoon, so rarely were they called into action. Ellie Bowdidge our captain for the day, Maddie Archer and Charlotte Fleming all excelled and ensured a solid performance and a sign of great things to come.

Writtle Minors 2 vs Hawkwell C&B 0

On a very windswept Saturday afternnoon at Paradise Road last year's League Winners and Runners-Up fought out their first encounter of the season.   With Writtle playing against the wind in 1H , Hawkwell took advantage of the conditions and probed the Writtle defenders - However,   Rosie Grice, Zara Ellis , Ellie Bowdidge and goalie Keeley Golding   never really looked threatened and half way through the half a great break by Holly Connell   led to a precision finish by striker Charlotte Ellmore to put the Green & Whites 1 - 0 up at the break.
In the second half , with the conditions favouring the home side, Writtle put more and more pressure on the opppsition, to culminate in a fantastic solo effort by winger Holly Connell ending at the back of the net. Despite being 2-0 down Hawkwell fought hard and came very close with a free-kick 5 minutes from time.
Overall, Writtle came out worthy winners in difficult conditions and lead the Under 11's ECGFL League table after 3 games with maximum points.
Player of the Match   -   Holly Connell

Writtle Minors 2 vs West Ham Utd 1

Writtle played host to West Ham in what promised and proved to be a very tight game. With each team creating chances, the breakthrough came after a great finish by Sophie Wander who latched onto a long ball forward and chipped the advancing Keeper. Writtle’s lead was doubled late in the 1st half when Sophie Hayden scored with a superb strike directly from a free kick.
Leading 2 0 at half time, the 2nd half started badly for Writtle with West Ham reducing the deficit almost straight from the restart.
For the remainder of the half West Ham pushed for the equalizer but a combination of good defending, an element of good fortune and some great work by Writtle’s player of the match Beth Wood in goal kept the visitors at bay.
A hard fought win makes it two from two games and keeps Writtle top of the league.

Island Girls 0 v Writtle Minors 5

Writtle travelled to a warm and sunny Canvey on Sunday to play their first match of the new season. The hard pitch plus a determined opposition made it difficult for Writtle to get their passing game together. Although having the better chances the game remained goalless at half-time.

A switch in tactics for the second half eventually led to Writtle taking the lead when after tremendous build up play involving Anna Watt, Dani Ellis and Autumn Rose, led to the debutant Layla Carvell slotted home. A second goal quickly followed when Courtney Clarke displayed an array of tricks down the left before firing in from the edge of the box. The home side began to lose a bit of heart as chasing the game became a struggle in the heat. After spurning numerous chances in the first half, Dani Ellis finally got on the score sheet by smashing home into the roof of the net from 8 yards. Island Girls did get forward on several occasions but found the away defence of Hannah Mold, Ciara Meeking and Fran Bazeley in solid form.

With 15 minutes to go Lucy Warren came out of goal to have a rare run out on field and within 5 minutes ran on to a through ball from Courtney Clarke to shoot home from inside the box. The impressive Layla Carvell then scored a deserved second - the Writtle 5th after a good team move.

Player of the Match: Layla Carvell.

Tigers Yellow Socks   0     Writtle Minors   3

Writtle Minors U11s travelled away for their second league game to Tigers Yellow Socks.   Tigers have a reputation for regularly fielding strong sides and it was to turn out this would be no exception (A new side, but with 2 or 3 very talented footballers).

On an incredibly hot Sunday afternoon Writtle managed to field the bare mimunum 7 players, and with one or two coughs amongst the players, it was always going to be tough to last the full 50 minutes.

Writtle started the game the strongest with some fantastic runs from Morgan Robertson and Tara Meeking on each wing - Whilst Tigers continued to struggle with the pace of the wing attacks, Writtle did not significantly trouble the home goal.

The first half was a reasonably close affair with Writtle probably having 60+% of possession and attacks - the Writtle defence of Ellie Bowdidge and Mollie Brett held tight with Tigers being limited to maybe only one or two half chances.

The girls were frazzled by half time under the increasing heat, but after refuelling started the second half with new impetus and continued to attack the Tigers defence at every opportunity.   It was 10 mins into the second half before Charlotte Ellmore broke the deadlock, tackling one defender, before turning to beat the second and then driving home.

Only minutes later a Tigers long ball eluded the Writtle midfield / defence and with possibly one of their best players through one on one, Keeley Golding pulled out of the bag a fantastic last ditch save that kept Writtle ahead.

During the last 10-15 mins Writtle's strength gradually started to show through, and with Rosie Grice probing more and more from midfield, it was only a matter of time before she found the back of the net.   At 2-0 up Writtle looked more and more comfortable, and with 5 mins to go started to playing some great football - the best so far this season, and following another few close attempts from the away side it was Rosie Grice who sealed the game with another low driven shot from an acute angle.

On an extremely hot day, with limited numbers, Writtle fought for every ball during game, and did themselves proud - a tremendous effort, and a well deserved vistory (Tigers 0, Writtle 3).

Next weekend will be the hardest game yet - Hawkwell Clarets and Blues (historically Ashingdon)

Great game girls - keep it going!!!

Girl of the Match - Mollie, Ellie, Keeley, Rosie, Tara, Morgan, Charlotte - All brilliant!
Goals - Rosie 2, Charlotte 1
Goals This Season - Morgan 5, Holly 3, Rosie 2, Charlotte 1
Clean Sheets This Season - 1 (Well done defence / keepers - Being an ex-defender thats worth 5+ goals in my book!!!!)

Writtle Minors 8   vs. Colchester Town 0

Writtle got their campaign underway at home against Colchester. A slow start saw the match goalless after 25 mins, until an individual effort from Georgia Sleep, was quickly followed by a close range volley by Sophie Wander from a corner.
The 2nd half saw Writtle begin to dominate with Kaylee Dodd finishing well after a superb ball by Ellie Georgiou. Dodd then added a fourth after a goalmouth scramble.
The goals now started to flow with Molly Archard notching her first competitive goal. A great run from Faith Candice led to the 6th when she was fouled in the area and Beth Wood dispatched the penalty.
Writtle were now in control and further goals from Georgiou after good work on the left by Wander and another from Archard after strong play in midfield completed the scoring.
Writtle’s Player of the Match was Sleep.

Leigh Celtic 2 - 6 Writtle

The girls u9’s travelled to Basildon Sunday 13th September 09 to play Leigh Celtic in their first ever 4 x 4 game.

All the girls were very excited before the game but hid any nerves well. Unlike the watching parents!

After a competitive first half Writtle took the lead with a goal from Charlotte Flemming and although Leigh Celtic equalized early in the second half,

the Writtle girls could be seen to noticeably grow in confidence.   With fine defending from Charlotte Green and Taylor Robertson and goals from Alice Bauckham and Maddy Archer, Writtle went to win 6-2.

Well done Girls!
